I am having a surgical abortion tomorrow and due to my BMI, I cannot have sedation, only local anaesthetic. I would really appreciate some experiences with just local anaesthetic as I am so worried about the pain. Also does anyone have any tips on how to make it less painful please? Like they have told me to take 2 ibuprofen on the way to the clinic but has anyone found co codomal better for example? Thank you

i don’t want to scare you but i had this and it was horrendous. please ask for gas and air and yes take whatever painkillers you can get your hands on. also take an eye mask if you can as mine i could see everything in the lights above me as they were mirrored and it was awful. sorry, i know that’s not the answer you want to hear

Hi! It was actually so much better than I expected. The nurses were so, so lovely and made me feel really at ease. I was crying before they even did anything, I think because I was just emotional and nervous but it wasn’t too painful at all and I’m actually glad I didn’t have sedation because I was out of there within 2 hours. The injections were quite stingy and I have never had a smear etc before so the cervical opening instruments were a bit painful but the actual suction, I couldn’t feel anything and it was all over within 4 minutes so please don’t be too nervous and it was fine!!
