Hi

I am looking for some reassurance as i am absolutely terrified.
I am going to be having a medical abortion hopefully week after next (waiting forever for appointment) but i suffer from health anxiety so have a terrible habit of over reading things.
One of the thing i have read is the risk of toxic shock syndrome and sepsis.
I have also read an old post on here of a woman who in detail went through the whole process and what she experienced. She mentioned that she took antibiotics also...is this so???
As on BPAS website I can't see anything about them giving antibiotics.
Can anyone else share there experience?
Thanks in advance x

Sorry you're going through this Thanks

I really struggle with health anxiety so I can empathise with you. I got myself so worked up about it during the wait I actually ran away from the hospital before I had the second lot of pills. (I was over 10 weeks so had to be in the hospital)

They don't give antibiotics anymore because the infection risk is so low. It is similar to after birth, your uterus will be slightly more susceptible to infection (but the risk is small).

I think as long as you're not putting tampons up or wiping back to front you will be fine. Fwiw, I had the procedure 3 weeks ago and a week later I felt comfortable enough to have sex again and no infections.

Easier said than done but please don't worry. If you have any questions feel free to get in touch x
