Bleeding after abortion

Hi everyone! Hope you are all coping and managing ok.
I had a medical abortion 13 days ago
The decision was mentally hard enough.
Going through it was hard and painful I locked myself away in a hotel for 3 days.
All went well as to be expected spent most of the 3/4 hours sitting on the toilet passing huge clots and bleeding.
After that I had a normal pad on and it felt like a normal period for the rest of the week but this week (second week) the blood flow has increased when I'm in the shower I'm just dripping and I've had to buy maxi always pads which get filled up after around 3 hours. Ive noticed if I'm really active then the blood flow increases even more no pain or cramps. My blood clots are small and the blood flow is nothing like when I was going through the abortion.
I was hoping the bleeding would either be super light now or stopping. ☹️ Its really getting me down my usual periods are light I'm not used to this kind of bleeding. I was 9 weeks pregnant.

Could be that then loose loss is natural for you at this moment but I’d see the doctor and get checked out as you could need some iron supplements of the blood loss is a lot or have other symptoms

I had a medical management for a missed miscarriage at 10 weeks (which is the same drugs). The doctors told me to expect to bleed for up to three weeks. I did bleed for the full three weeks and then was still testing positive so had to go in for a scan. At the scan they found I was still retaining some pregnancy products so needed further treatment. It might be worth giving the clinic you attended a call if the bleeding continues, they should've given you some contact details when they discharged you.

Please call your abortion provider , discuss with them and see if you need a Post Treatment Check
Sounds as if you are passing some retained products
As long as not showing signs of infection - if so I would access AE tonight , otherwise call helpline tomorrow morning

I have read that the more further along you are the longer you bleed but incomplete abortion is what I've been thinking too. Especially as the clots can be the size of 2 50p's.
I was told to take the special pregnancy test given to me at 3 weeks which will be next friday.
If its an incomplete pregnancy will it most definitely come up positive?
I will call both doctor and the abortion clinic tomorrow.

No signs of infection that I know of no high temp or pain anywhere I feel normal.

4 steps of self assessment

Did I get a response within 24 hrs ?
Did I bleed for at least 4 days ?
Do I still feel any pregnancy symptoms after 7 days ?
Pregnancy test in 3 weeks

These are all good indicators of your treatment working
Failure rate very very small
If faint positive on test - don't ignore just give them a call

This is my third week today since abortion.
Does this mean incomplete abortion.
When I spoke to docs in the week they saif to wait till pregnancy test then call them monday.
Im going to call BPAS today.
My bleeding isnt as heavy as last week its more like a normal period this week. Only pain I have is a really bad headache which has been there all week. I'm thinking low iron or even amenia now.

That's a very very faint positive
Please call the Aftercare contact number , they will ask you various questions and either send you another test to do in 1 week - or book you a Post treatment check to go in for a scan and assessment
Highly unlikely to be failed
More likely to be a small amount of retained products - this is what holds on to the hormone and shows the faint positive
Don't stress about it , just call discuss and take it from there

Update.
Clinic have sent another test to do this Saturday if it comes up positive then they want me to go have a scan.

Bleeding has eased up a lot this week its really light.

Doctors have taken bloods today to check for Anemia or just slightly low iron levels.
I have bad headache everyday
Feel weaker than I usually do
My pulse races at 164bpm just walking around the house.
Sometimes when I get up I getthat fuzzy everything for black for a couple of seconds.

Sorry to hear that you've been suffering with pain. 😔 I haven't had any pain not since the actual abortion took place.

How are you now since having to have more tablets really feeling for you having to of had gone through that again. How many weeks past abortion were you when had to take more tablets? Did you have a scan.

I told my 2nd pregnancy test last saturday and there was a very very faint line. It will be my 5th week tomorrow still bleeding although very light.

Docs have told me I'm severely Anemic and I've been put on ferrous sulphate. If my Blood count drops any lower I will need a blood transfusion 😕 bloods will be taken again in 2 weeks.

Abortion clinic have book an appointment for early march cant remember date for a scan to check for any remaining tissue.
They did say on 6th week to do a normal pregnany test from shop and if that comes up negative I can cancel scan. Not sure what to do.

Just wish this bleeding would stop.

I hope you managed to get everything sorted and are feeling okay, I am currently going through something similar. I had an incomplete abortion and are currently waiting on a surgical abortion now. I found taking the tablets a really horrible experience so I’m really scared about the surgical one, has anyone had one before and could give me some information about it?
