Hi all,

Have taken misoprostol tablets at 11am today - started bleeding with mild cramps but haven't passed many clots as yet - it's been 5 hours. Should I take the extra two tablets or just wait it out - I'm bleeding regularly just no huge clots as yet.

Thanks in advance

Sorry I can't advise you although my info leaflet didn't day you have to be passing clots just that you have to bleed heavily.

Did you take th others? I'm taking mine this morning and so scared :(

squishymarshmellow · 16/01/2022 09:07

@oopswhatdoido I'm going through the same thing today and I'm so so scared. The rational part of my brain says it will all be fine and the relief will be immense. It's just so hard isn't it.

Ah best of luck with it. It's so hard, are you taking first tablet today? How many weeks are you?

squishymarshmellow · 16/01/2022 09:15

@oopswhatdoido I'm 10 weeks, I've had to wait a month for an appointment due to the backlog where I live it has been hell! How far along are you?

I had the first pill on Friday at the hospital due to gestation. Nothing has really happened except cramping and bloody discharge but I suppose that's normal.

oopswhatdoido · 16/01/2022 09:18

Ah that's really shitty that you have to wait so long. Are you in hospital now or at home? When do you take second?

I'm 6.5 weeks. I'm in Ireland and have to say, it was really easy to get booking and get it rolling. I took first tablet yesterday morning and second two will be taken in a. Couple of hours. I haven't had anything with first tablet. No side effects at all

I think it's quite normal for nothing to happen with the first. I had it Friday afternoon and didn't get cramps or spotting until late last night.

I just have to wait for a call to go in and have the second lot and stay in until it has passed. The waiting is hard so it's nice to know others are going through similar even if it's different. When are you going to do the second lot?

oopswhatdoido · 16/01/2022 11:26

How are you getting on? I tried to PM you but couldn't for some reason, PM me and I can reply. Have you been called in? I just took second...I'm so scared. I'm medicated to the gills between Xanax, difene etc. Was nervous so took a few this before

I'm still waiting to be called in Sad

At least you're on with the process and I hope it goes quickly for you. Let me know how you get on!

I called the nurse this morning and explained what I'd experienced and she said it sounded like I'd passed the pregnancy and not to take the additional pills as the amount of bleeding will vary and can come and go over the next few days. Good luck today!

@oopswhatdoido @squisymarshmellow Hi ladies, just thought I'd tell you my experience if you are stressing about today. Obviously it's different for everyone, but I was absolutely terrified after reading horror stories online and was expecting the worst. I took misoprostol around 11am yesterday, took around 2 hours to start bleeding - I had taken 2 nurofen plus (codeine and ibuprofen) and two panadol extra (paracetomol) so I was very dosed up on painkillers - thankfully I had no side effects from the codeine. I didn't have many clots but the blood would gush out when I sat on the toilet. Around 2pm I passed a large clot which I believe was the pregnancy as cramps were a tiny bit stronger before this happened. After that the bleeding really subsided.

I had a hot water bottle on me the entire time and in all honesty, I would rate my pain at the worst about a 3/10 - it was more discomfort than pain. Feeling a little tender today but relieved otherwise.

I'm here if you need any words of support! Good luck, you've got this xxx

That's really reassuring @SLondon54. Thanks for sharing that. I'm hoping I've just build this up in my head and I'm pleasantly surprised. Im just going to try sleep (I'm just finished night shift so exhausted!) until this kicks in. I'm so relieved to have it started noe anyway. It's been a long two weeks going back and forth and happy with my decision. Ive been so so scared of this process but I'm just praying it's not as bad in reality

oopswhatdoido · 16/01/2022 11:58

@squishymarshmellow I really hope you get called soon. The waiting around must be so hard

oopswhatdoido · 16/01/2022 13:09

@squishymarshmellow so far so good, just light period bleeding and light cramps.

squishymarshmellow · 16/01/2022 13:15

@oopswhatdoido ah I'm so pleased for you. Fingers crossed it's all over soon!

I'm still waiting. Not sure how much longer I can wait to be honest.

oopswhatdoido · 16/01/2022 13:18

@squishymarshmellow that really hard, try keep busy while waiting. Really hope they call you soon. It will be lovely to have the security of the hospital staff there with you during it all though x

oopswhatdoido · 16/01/2022 13:20

@squishymarshmellow bring a hot water bottle with you. It's really helping me x

squishymarshmellow · 16/01/2022 13:27

@oopswhatdoido thank you so much for the advice, glad it's helping! X

oopswhatdoido · 17/01/2022 09:11

@squishymarshmellow how are you doing?

squishymarshmellow · 17/01/2022 09:24

@oopswhatdoido I got admitted at 7am in the end. I had the tablets at 8 and passed half at 8.40 it happened really quick. Apparently the placenta isn't there so I have to wait.

How did you get on? I hope it was smooth for you x

oopswhatdoido · 17/01/2022 10:47

@squishymarshmellow glad it happened quickly for you, did you get good pain relief? Will they give you more meds now to pass placenta?

It went really well for me, I'm delighted it's done. I had built it up in my head so was actually relieved how manageable it was. Just have like a heavy period now. Cramping is more or less gone.

Looks like we were worried when we didn't need to be!

The placenta passed before I needed the next meds and I'm just here to observe bleeding now then I can go home.

I had taken some paracetamol but it all happened before I could take the codeine or anything more. I'm glad yours went fine too it's such a relief x
