Abortion but HCG 4900+ 4 weeks after?!

I had an abortion at the end of August, done my 3 week pregnancy test and it come back positive. (I did make a post regarding this and it was suggested that I may have retained parts of the pregnancy)
Long story short, I ended up in a&e as my bleeding has started again but it's heavy and small clots. They did a blood test and the results are showing my HCG levels are still very high at just over 4900. I can't get in for a scan until Thursday morning.
The triage nurse in epu said that's very high for the possibility of retained products. I still have some symptoms such as headaches and slight sickness which didn't fully disappear after the abortion.
I went onto the contraceptive pill a fews day the abortion. (Couldn't get a doctors app or sexual health app for a month so had to order through Boots and wait for delivery)
The nurse said the level of hcg is similar to a pregnancy of 5-6 weeks but I was 5-6 weeks when I had the abortion nearly 4 weeks ago!
I am driving myself crazy! What the hell is going on?! I regret the abortion so much and this is making me feel even worse, the possibility that the abortion failed as there is no way I can go through that again😔
Not really sure what I'm expecting as replies to this, but any sort of advice please!

Did they scan you in EPAU?

Sounsurex · 28/09/2021 20:29

@Sudokuzebra thank you for the link, I will have a look at their site

@thesearelaughterlines I had a scan before the abortion which showed the pregnancy was between 5-6 weeks but that was 4 weeks ago. I have a scan booked in for Thursday to find out what's going on

Ok , EPAU should have scanned you while you there but at least you have one booked soon
Good luck

How did you get on @Sounsurex I hope you are ok?

@CrimeJunkie01 I went back for more bloods, they raised from 4795 to 5790 in two days so they sent me for a scan. Nothing was found on the scan, in confusion the nurse sent me to another department on a better scanner. The gynaecologist doing the scan checked and nothing was found, my tubes included. The gynaecologist said my womb lining was thick and he said that is properly why I'm bleeding.
They are all completely confused. They said if it was retained products it should be visible on the scan, and my hcg levels wouldn't be rising by that that much, nor would they be so high.
They also said it can't be a new pregnancy as it would be far too soon after abortion to have ovulate and a pregnancy with hcg at 5790, something would be visible. Also chances are slim as I also took the contraceptive pill.
I had another blood test done Friday but the results didn't get back to EPU before they closed at 530pm so now I have to wait until monday.
I didn't update the thread as I'm assuming noone is going to have much advise if the EPU nurses and gynaecologist have no answers for me. It's very frustrating.
The bleeding has finally stopped today so I will be interested to see what a bloodtest will say now.
Thank you for asking x

Ah bless you, that sounds really stressful. I hope you get some answers on Monday. At least the bleeding has let up which probably makes you feel a bit better. Hugs.
