Positive test 3 weeks after abortion

I had a medical abortion at 5-6 weeks. Told to follow up with a pregnancy test they had given me, 3 weeks after. It come up positive straight away.
I can't get into the clinic again until end of next week as they are busy. So now I have a whole week of wondering what the hell has gone on. I didn't even realise abortions could fail. Theyve told me I could still be pregnant. Or I could still be retaining some of the pregnancy.
I really thought I had got through the worse bit of this and I just want to know what's going on.
I can't imagine I'm still pregnant as I don't have sickness or any pregnancy symptoms.
Any sort of help would be appreciated.

I've had a medical termination and tested positive after (twice) - I had some retained products that hadn't come out.

Once I needed surgery to remove the products, the other time it was less than 1cm of products left, and they said to come in if I got a temp/bad smell down there etc (e.g sign of infection), otherwise it would just eventually come out on its own. Two months later I had the heaviest period of my life with so many clots, and tested negative after that, but they weren't interested in re-scanning me to check anything, they were happy it was most likely all sorted now.

Thank you for replying. I'm wondering if that's going to be my issue too.
I've been bleeding again the last 4 days and it's heavier than the light bleeding I had immediately after taking the tablets. Not heavy enough to concern me but definitely heavy and slight aches.
This is so horrible, it just feels like it's dragging on and this is my karma for having the abortion 😔

Oh darling. It is NOT karma, you were well within your rights to do what was good for your situation. It sounds like some retained products perhaps… I know its horrendous but it will get sorted. Honestly. If in the meantime you feel unwell get yourself to A & E. x

I had a medical termination at 5/6 weeks and got a strong positive 4 weeks later, and it stayed positive for nearly 7 weeks. I had a scan 4 weeks post termination, and no retained product, they told me it can just take that long go negative. Fingers crossed it's just taking your hormones a while to go down xx

Oh my goodness, I just read your second post. It is not karma at all, there is nothing wrong with making the right decision for your body. Take care x

Thank you all for your replies.
I called epu earlier on today and they can't get me in until the end of the week.
I feel as though this is my karma as I wasn't 100% sure on the abortion and acted more out of panic, I wish I gave myself more time to think about it but with each day the baby growing more, the symptoms getting worse and it becoming more real, I didn't want to leave it any longer and make it an even harder decision, if that is possible. I regret my decision massively. There's a huge part of me that hopes I am still pregnant but I don't want to get my hopes up.
Thanks again for replying. I will try to remember to update this post for any future women in the same position.

Hi I've just been threw the exact same thing had a scan Friday and I'm 3 months pregnant even tho I had a termination last month. I had no idea when the test came up positive I just assumed was leftover tissue and so did my doctor so was all very surprised. We have now decided to continue with the pregnancy although was a hard decision to make. Hope you can update us on your situation x

I just wanted to leave this here for any ladies going through something similar in the future.

I got a very strong positive test 3 weeks after a medical abortion and my boobs/nipples were still so sore.
I'd followed the instructions with the medications to a T, even laid down for half the day to encourage them to work, bled for two weeks etc.

I knew my body from previous pregnancies and called the clinic to insist something was not right - they attempted to fob me off at first but I put my foot down.

Was scanned and unfortunately I was still pregnant (8 wks) and the first procedure had not worked, so I was booked in for surgery the following week.

Trust your bodies ladies, it isn't worth it to leave things when you are worrying so much x
