Medical Abortion - 12 hours in

Good evening all. I’m getting rather worried that I inserted the last 2 misoprotol at 4pm this afternoon and I’m only experiencing light bleeding and cramps. Is this normal? I was expecting a heavy bleed. Cramps have been manageable and I haven’t had to have any pain medication. I am nearly 7 weeks and have been every so poorly with HG for the last 2 weeks. I’m just sat panicking and was hoping this would be all over today so I didn’t have to endure another day of continued vomiting tomorrow. 😭. Thank you in advance. X

Hi OP, we're just letting you know we've moved this thread to Pregnancy Choices where you may get more of a response Flowers

@sleighton88
Sorry to say but a lot of people might need a few doses of this before it takes affect, and a few people it does not work for and end up needing a d&c to clear out the womb, I had them for a miscarriage as my womb was not clearing out still had to have clots removed from my cervix as they where lodging there and causing really heavy bleeding, so please if you start to fill a pad nearly every half hour or so please go to hospital and get checked on, bleeding will pick up to clear the womb but sometimes things to not come away.

How’s it going OP? It sounds stressful for you.

Betsybanshee · 22/08/2021 01:04

Poor you Op, i would give it 24 hours and follow up with the clinic that you got the tablets from Flowers

Thank you all, cramping all night, 2am passed a large plum sized clot (not sure if that was the sac or just a blood clot?) cramping continuing and still not bleeding heavily. (More when I sit on the the loo). If it was the sac I was under the impression the cramping would subside? I’m rather confused? Thank you all for your kind replies xx

Thank you! My first time on mumsnet! X

Morning off duty doctor here, I wouldn't worry about the ongoing cramping, might taken a few days to stop. At 7 weeks a plum size clot could be the sack. I would see how you go for a couple more days. Pregnancy symptoms won't disappear over night but will "fade out" over the next week or so good luck Flowers

@traumatisednoodle - thank you so much for your reassuring message. Cramping subsided now. I was expecting a lot more blood however I don’t bleed much during my time of the month either. I’ll keep an eye on it and ring bpas if I stop bleeding altogether. Thank you again. Have a wonderful Sunday x

Hi OP
Have just had mine on Friday.
I used the tablets orally (not vaginally) and it worked sightly quicker.
For me the passing of products was obvious as the only place I tolerated the cramps was in the shower
But only a few blood clots and some bleeding followed after. At 36hs I was down to a normal period which like yours, as you say, isn't much notmally anyways.
Never soaked through pads and only had that gushing thing happen once.
Spoke with the hospital and was reassured that it's within the spectrum of notmal esp that I had seen the products come away (sack and placenta).
Hopefully it is the same for you but the ultimate reassurance of course will be the test a few weeks down the line.
Good luck. Don't worry much- not like it will change anything but makes it much worse for us- and if any concerns go back to your provider/nhs/etc.
Best wishes x

Thank you so much @dodette78 that’s really reassuring. I guess we are all different and I just need to try and stop worrying! I hope you are feeling ok in yourself now. Thank you for sharing your experience with me. X

I am in day 2 of my medical abortion.

I took the mifepristone on Saturday, and followed with the misoprostol x4 on Sunday (yesterday). I had several loose bowel movements and then a small passing of tissue. I contacted my clinic as I was concerned that I hadn't passed enough and that the bleeding was scant. I took a second dose of the misoprostol today with lose bowels again and light bleeding but nothing significant. I would have been just 5 weeks when I took the initial tablet to block the hormone. I'm bleeding very lightly but not as much as I had thought, but again my pregnancy was very early.
I will say that my HG and exhaustion disappeared within about 4 hours of taking the first tablet on Saturday so I'm hopeful that it has been successful. Will still be anxious at testing time since I was expecting more dramatic loss.

I'm ashamed to say that this is my second abortion. My first was at 9 weeks when I was younger, and I ended up in hospital because some of the tissue lodged in the neck of my womb and was causing horrible pain. They ended up doing a D&C at an internal examination which I hadn't anticipated but my pain was so severe I didn't care.

Regrettably, I found myself in the same situation again at this point in life but I know that it is the right choice. I already have a child and I am in the process of a mental health dignosis and we come first.

Sending love, care and peace to all the ladies here who need it in making this decision. It is not easy, mentally or physically to go through an abortion, but trust in yourself and your vision for your own life and the timing of it xx
