Abortion under general - what to expect?

I've got an appointment tomorrow to book a surgical abortion under general anaesthetic, hopefully on Friday. I'm happy that this choice is right for me and my family but would appreciate if anyone can say what it was like afterwards or what to expect. I've never even had a general anaesthetic and finding someone to stay with me for the 24 hours afterwards has been the hardest bit so far.

I had a tfmr under surgical method at 16weeks, so general anaesthetic. I got pills 3 hours previously, to dilate the cervix. The anaesthetic was pretty much instant effect, just like falling asleep. Woke up half hour later in the recovery room. Didn't feel any effects later, just a little bit of mild cramping. I was fully up and about when they discharged me an hour or so later. Little bit of spotting for the next few days.

Everybody reacts differently to anaesthetic, so best to follow the medical advise to the letter.

I have had an abortion and a d and c for a molar pregnancy. Both times I was a bit confused when I first came round, slep it off for a bit in the cubicle. Had to have a sandwhich and pee to check could do both okay then was home after a couple of hours. I felt okay, wasn't in too much pain and the bleeding was like a heavy period for a couple of days then settled down.

I got pills inserted too. One injection they called a pre med. it did nothing.
They wheeled me down to the room and put a canula in my arm and an oxygen mask on my face and asked me to count to ten. I think the stuff felt cold in my arm. It was fine.

That’s all I remembered until I woke up in a ward. I was just sleepy and chilled out. I had to go for a pee before they let me go home and I needed someone with me to escort me there.

It was many years ago so I imagine they get you out pretty quickly now.

It was like a heavy period. I’d recommend those heavy duty pads. I leaked on my bed but that was par for the course for me back on the day.

I was tired the next day and a bit crampy and periody.

I’d take the next day off work for sure if not the one after as well just to have a rest. You should take time off work after a tooth extraction to let your body heal so why not for this too.
