Weight gain after pregnancy

Had my first baby, looking back at pregnancy photos I look slimmer than I do now, I know I didn’t gain much at all during pregnancy, Was around 10st prior and never reached 11st before birth (2 weeks overdue) but since birth baby is 5 months I’m now 14st, any advice on controlling the weight gain after birth?

Lack of sleep can do that to you! That’s a fair bit of weight gain post birth so it’s probably worth mentioning to your GP to rule out anything underlying, e.g. thyroid issues. But in the meantime try to stay hydrated (thirst cues can feel like hunger cues when tired), try to only buy healthy things to snack on when you’re looking for something easy (I’m a fan of dates, blueberries, popcorn, instant oatmeal...), and as the weather improves try to take baby out for long walks. That ought to help things plateau at very least!

It might be worth getting your thyroid checked as it’s quite common for it to go out of whack post partum and a big symptom is weight gain. Besides feeling generally like shit, I piled on weight after DS1 was born and was diagnosed with an underactive thyroid when he was about 4 or 5 mo this old.
