Medical Abortion Telephone Appointment

Hi all. After making the tough decision, my husband and I have decided that the best thing for us and our family is to have an abortion. The stick says I'm currently 2-3 weeks pregnant (or working from past period date 6 weeks).
I have a telephone appointment on Friday and whilst we're not happy having to make this decision we know it's the right one. My anxiety is more about the process.
What dictates whether you can have a telephone consultation and have the pack posted to you or whether you have to go into the clinic? How many conversations do you have with the clinic before it's decided if you can take the process at home?

Thank you. It's been a tough decision and in my heart of hearts I know it's the right one but it doesn't make the process any less daunting. Any advice would be very much appreciated x

I called our local sexual health clinic initially and they said I had to go for an appointment at the hospital. The main reason for this was to date the pregnancy. I was 100% sure of my dates, but they said I still had to be dated to ensure a medical abortion at home was safe. I went and the scan confirmed my dating and I was given the pack to go home with last week.

It is such a hard decision. Me and my husband were the same as you, deliberated and decided it was best. Was a shock to find out I was pregnant, we’re both in our 40’s (husband late 40’s) and we have teenage children.

Sorry to hear your going through this too, it’s horrible. I’m 5 days post termination and feeling very low, but it was 100% the right choice

Hugs to you x

Thank you for letting me know your experiences, I like processes and routines and am much more comfortable knowing what to expect and when.

Naturally you're going to feel very low, I do hope you start feeling a bit brighter soon and can start looking to the future x

I’m in the same situation and feel exactly the same.
I really want to know what determines the tablets being posted or needing to attend. The lady on the phone kept saying they need my height and weight. I am a bit overweight, will this mean I have to physically attend?
I am struggling to get any time off work.

I can only go on my experience but I think given all that I did at the clinic during my appointment it would be weird to just be posted some tablets. I had my height/weight/blood pressure done. Also had some bloods at pathology to check my bloody type etc incase I was admitted in with blood loss...was given injections to put into my stomach for 10 days after to avoid clots, and I had a scan to date the pregnant. I felt safe and 100% supported the whole time. I would want every lady in this horrible situation to feel the same 🤍

@WatchaDoing thank you. I’m sure time will help. I’m the same as you, I need routines and things explained in detail so I have a good expectation x

I told them the date of my last period but they wanted to scan me due to a couple of cramps with the intention of taking the medication there, I then had to have a second scan at my local hospital as they couldn't find the pregnancy and thought it could be ectopic but once that was resolved, the pack was sent out to me.

I had my telephone appointment this morning and am now booked in for a telephone consultation with the nurse tomorrow morning and also have a time to pick up the medication later tomorrow morning all being well. Because I have no medical issues (although BMI wise I am classes as overweight) and I am early enough to not warrant a dating scan (6 weeks and 5 days) it appears that it is pretty straightforward. I'll be honest, I feel a little relieved now that the process has started, this week has felt like a lifetime.

I hope you're all doing ok x

Thanks so much for letting me know, the wait is awful.
I hope everything goes as well as these things can for you tomorrow.

There is a very strict criteria to be followed
Pills by Post will only be provided if you pass all of the red flag point
For example .. sure of decision, sure of LMP, regular periods , no recent contraception etc
If you fail any of the assessment you will be booked into a clinic for either and US scan , a HB check , B/P or BMI ... these are the most common reasons for in clinic visit
Thousands of women have benefited from EMA/ PBP but it does not suit everyone .

My anxiety is through the roof on the what ifs like ie what if I die what if it doesn’t come away. I know crazy I even think like that but I’m such a worry head. I will be 4 wks when I get it done can anyone give me reassurance xx
