Post abortion bleeding please help!

Just wondered if someone could give me some advice or if someone has been through something similar to me. A bit of background, took the second set of medical tablets 4/2/2021, bleed as expectedly for a week with clots passing which settled down. A week later bleeding started again quite heavy and passed big clots again, went in for an internal scan the following week and was given the all clear - they couldn’t see any retained products. By then the bleeding settled to a light type period. Now since the weekend my bleeding has gone heavy again, I’ve called the after clinic and they have booked me again for a scan next Saturday. I took a pregnancy test this morning and it has a very faint positive line. The nurse on the phone said it could be two things- retained products or it could be my monthly period. But I’m confused about my pregnancy test- if it is my period why is my pregnancy test positive? Shouldn’t it be negative now? Could they have missed something on the scan? They did both scans internal and abdominal scan and couldn’t see anything last week but did mention that my uterus lining is still quite thick- could that be the reason for the ongoing bleeding? No smelly discharge or anything. Can someone relate to this? It’ll be 4 weeks on Tuesday so I am going out of my mind with worry! Thanks x

I bled for weeks after, this was due to retained products which in the end I had to get removed. I would really push for another scan, especially if you've got a positive on the test

Thanks for replying, I do have a scan on Saturday, just doesn’t make sense how they could miss something on the scan. I’m worried that by then I would’ve been bleeding for almost 5weeks and they’ll say that I’ve lost too much blood and refer me to the hospital which will prolong the situation even more.

I bled for 4 weeks

I bled for 8 weeks, had a day of minimal bleeding and then got my period for four days and finally stopped bleeding. I lost more clots 2 weeks after my termination, so I had retained products. I wasn’t offered a scan until 8 weeks after and I declined - not the most sensible thing to do so I’m glad you have one booked and you’re going. It did work okay for me, I’ve only just got negative tests 3 months after the procedure. It’s more than likely retained products - most often than not they won’t take further action if the products are minimal as they’ll come out in next period. If the retained products are large then they’ll either ask you to repeat the process and/or offer you surgical option to remove them.

Did your clots last long? I’m due to get the coil fitted tonight and I’m still passing largeish clots 2 weeks later.
