Bleeding after medical abortion

Hi all,

I’m looking for some advice about patterns of bleeding after early medical abortion.
I had the second part of a medical abortion on Saturday 13th December. The bleeding immediately after was heavy but not extreme and in the week following it slowed down to just spotting and I didn’t need a pad over the weekend. Last night and today I’ve started bleeding again. It’s only moderate but it’s taken me a bit by surprise. I’ve tried google and I’m thinking that pretty much all bleeding is ok for 2 weeks but I think I just need a bit of reassurance this stop start bleeding is definitely ok.
I’ve had a tfmr which was much later and the bleeding then was a lot less so that’s another reason I’m slightly concerned.

I had this. I have spoken to the nurse and she said that as I also had a clot and fresh bleed after stopping bleeding that it was probably retained tissue. If there are no signs of infection (aches/pains/fever/smell) then not to be worried.
I have now though had a positive test (3 weeks post termination) so they said that there may be hormones left still due to retaining that tissue for longer. I have a scan booked to check

Hi 💕

I had a medical termination in August.
I bled for the best part of 2 weeks (which was "normal") and then it stopped, and then I randomly had spotting about 10 days later which lasted for a few days, then went, and then about a week later my period came and I have been regular ever since without any more spotting.

I phoned the helpline (BPAS) as I was concerned that this spotting was random. She said it all sounded totally normal and I haven't had any problems since.

I don't think there is any "one size first all" for how our bodies respond and adjust to this procedure but just wanted to reach out and offer a hand-hold 💕
