Hi all

Please no judgment as I'm finding this hard enough.

I am just over 6 weeks pregnant and have a surgical termination booked for Tuesday 22nd December. I am having this under local anaesthetic as I also have emetophobia (fear of being sick) so am petrified a medical abortion / sedation / general anaesthetic will make me sick.

Anyway, I have just found out that I have to take a tablet either a day before, or on the day of the procedure to soften my cervix. I'm petrified this will make me sick!! I'm also scared the procedure itself will!

I have felt sick this entire pregnant which has meant I've hardly eaten, slept or drunk a thing so I am really struggling and dealing with daily panic attacks. I need this to be over.

Please can anyone share any positive experiences with this type of tablet and procedure?

Thanks in advance x

I didn't vomit or feel sick during induction if that helps. Must be similar types of drug. I had a medically managed miscarriage and 3 other natural miscarriages and no vomiting or nausea.

I was in your exact situation but 11 weeks along a couple of years ago. In my experience I had no sickness at all from my surgical termination or anything surrounding it.

I hope your procedure goes okay! X

Sorry, OP I'm not an expert on this but could you ask to try an antiemetic during the termination?

NinaJames · 16/12/2020 16:19

Thanks everyone.

@MsCrapola did you have it with just local anaesthetic? How did you find it? I'm petrified!

@berrygirlie yes... I have them prescribed anyway for my anxiety so will take in my own and ask for anything they have too! However, I am still scared and it isn't helped by the fact I've felt sick everyday with this pregnancy so far and literally been living in a constant state of panic 😒

I'd say go for the anti-emetics, I've also heard good things about ginger (maybe tea or biscuits?). If your anxiety is the biggest cause, you could try and practise some mindfulness / meditation prior to the op to keep your mental state calm. Best of luck, OP! Brew

Hi. How did this go? I'm considering an abortion and I'm also emetophobic.
