Medical or sugical abortion?

Hello. I've recently found out I am pregnant and I have decided to have an abortion. After doing a lot of reading of other women's experiences, I think I would prefer a surgical abortion. The problem is I am only 4 weeks pregnant so I would have to wait 2 weeks. I'm in a complete state with worry and I'm not sure I can get through two more weeks. I can barely eat because I'm so scared.

I don't know if I should just do the medical to get it over with? Any advice would be most appreciated x

I would go medical as you can do it now. That is why I went medical. It really isn't that bad Thanks also less intrusive as it's more 'natural'. Wishing you luck whatever you decide x

Surgical is very traumatic.a visit to the gynae is hell anyway let alone when you are there for abortion. A pill and you can just be comfy at home.

@VHarvey79 bless your heart I'm sorry you're going through this.
I know what you are feeling as I've just been through the same thing.
My medical failed (do not worry it's a 3% chance 🙄) then had to have a surgical at 10 weeks. I chose medical for the same reason as @bornninthe80s (hey 🙋🏽‍♀️💜) but unfortunately it just didn't happen for me.

But honestly the Surgical is not traumatic in the slightest. You are able to have conscious sedation and you do not feel a thing I promise you. I was an absolute wreck before I went sick shaking the works. I went in at 11.10 was out by 11.30am. Honestly it's not scary at all. I still don't remember a lot from it if I'm brutally honest.

Thinking of you 💜 xx

@VHarvey79 PM me if you want xx

Good luck op. I've had a surgical and it was fine. I went for a medical but miscarried so had the same bleeding I would have had with the pill and that was also fine.

I'd do medical to get on with it (but seem to remember having to also wait a couple of weeks for that).

Both are fine and you will be fine. X

Hey @ohdoriswheresthesalad Grin I owe you a PM XX

I wanted surgical but the number of clinics offering it is very small compared to medical. In the end I didn't do it because it took so long to get the date I changed my mind (or rather I guess persuaded my DH to change his).

Feel free @thisusernameismine 😊

I would strongly recommend waiting a little longer for a surgical abortion. My experience of a medical abortion was a) agonising pain, b) psychological trauma after taking the first pill and waiting for the second and c) bleeding for many many weeks. I was told it was complete at a follow-up scan but then had to have subsequent surgery (extremely unpleasant, as bad as a c-section) to remove the retained placenta. I became very anemic and weak and also found the whole thing psychologically distressing. I have also had a surgical abortion (when very young and in a different country) and that was a far far better experience, short, much less 'conscious', and over quickly. If I was ever in the situation again I would pay privately for a surgical abortion rather than have a medical one on the NHS (if the only kind offered at the moment).

I had surgical at 5 weeks . Happy to chat .

For me it was the best thing over medical as I didn't want long drawn out pain / to really see anything .

Was very positive experience considering it was not a good thing to go through .

I had a medical at home at 5 weeks. I was terrified but honestly, physically it was no big deal at all. Other than gettings chills and shakes about 8 hours after I inserted the pills, it was just liken a heavy, clotty period.

Unfortunately for me it turned out to be the wrong choice and I have suffered a lot mentally since. I do regret it. But physically it was fine. Period back as normal 28 days after.

ElowenSmile · 06/10/2020 12:10

If you are sure its what you want just ring BPAS, i had the pills through my letterbox within 5 days of my first call to them.

I had surgical and because more people are you it’s a lot less personal but I can’t imagine passing it at home and flushing it down the loo
