11 week scan high risk

Hello

I am not sure if this is the right place to post. I am currently 11 weeks pregnant with fraternal twins. Yesterday, we had 11 week scan and did not get the results we wanted. One twin has nuchal measurement of 2.9mm (considered too high) and no nasal bone visible. Doctor said this puts baby at very high risk of Downs, or other syndromes. I gave bloods after scan for Harmony test and expect those in a week or so, and then maybe we do the CVS to confirm if that is high too. I am not sure what I am asking here, sorry. I just feel so heartbroken and not coping well at the moment x

Oh this stage of waiting is awful, I'm so sorry you're going through it. I've been through a bad combined test result (hormones were out of whack) and subsequent CVS and from that all was fine. Harmony was also clear thankfully.

Sending a hand hold and keep talking as much as you need xx

PS would ask MN to move this to antenatal tests section x

Thank you so much @bornninthe80s. I am so glad that everything turned out well for you.

The wait is horrible, always on my mind. The consultant didn’t sound too optimistic based on the scan so trying to manage expectations xx

Sorry, how do I find the antenatal section x

The nuchal fold is only slightly over so try to stay positive. The Harmony test will give you a much clearer picture.

Thank you @Tempusfudgeit. I really hope that is the case. It just didn’t seem too hopeful given that combined with no nasal bone on the scan. Should have the harmony results end of this week (which feels like an eternity at the moment) x

I understand, I've been there. The results did come back quicker than expected for me, so hopefully you won't have to wait too long. Thinking of you xx

Thank you @Tempusfudgeit. Sorry you have been there too xx

Unfortunately our harmony came back inconclusive, not enough dna. I read that this is linked to chromosomal abnormalities, so the more things that happen the more I think something is wrong. I’m pretty convinced there is. The other reasons could be high bmi or if you are very tall - I am just under 5ft and under 7st so definitely not the reason.

We did the cvs in the end yesterday as we were seeing the consultant to discuss the bloods. Nothing had changed on the scan - still no nasal bone and still large nuchal fold x

@Simz01

I had the NIPT done with fraternal twins around 10 weeks and it came back no result - I wasn't able to have the NT measured at the 12 week scan as neither of the babies would sit still so had a very stressful couple of weeks for the NIPT to be redrawn and results come back

From what I was told getting a No result with twins is very common As they have to find sufficient DNA (different companies have different % below which they won't report)

I'm sorry you are going through this.

I had a tfmr at 17/18w last year, after a problematic scan leading to Downs diagnosis & detection of organ abnormalities.

I would advise CVS or amnio based on my experience, have just seen you have had CVS. I am wishing the best for you. ARC-UK has a great helpline and will help you understand results, discuss any options you are considering, and generally just offer a listening ear when you are going through tests/considering any results.

Whatever the result, and whatever choices you may come to make, you will be ok.

Simz01 · 29/08/2020 11:34

Thanks @ivfdreaming, that’s helpful to know that it can happen esp with twins x

I had the NIPT redrawn at 13 weeks and results did come back low risk in the end but the foetal dna was still low compared to single babies (the company i used the cut off is 5% and one baby was 4.5% and the other a little over 5% so barely Over the reporting threshold) x

@SylvanianFrenemies thank you, and I am so sorry you went through that x

@ivfdreaming thank you - so pleased you got those results second time round.

We did the CVS, and actually I had no issues after and the doctor was very good. Our results came back clear for the first set (Trisomy 13, 18, 21) and next will be a heart scan. I am of course pleased, but still so anxious regarding what the scan showed, especially with no nasal bone visible
