Consultation Appointment Completed

Hi there

Today I have had my consultation appointment at my local hospital who confirmed after carrying out a ultrasound scan i was 7 weeks 3 days pregnant. I decided to proceed with the termination and am booked in for a Medical Termination on Monday where I have to go and take 1 tablet at the hospital and they will give me another 4 to take at home and administer these vaginally the next day and said I need to take a pregnancy test 3 weeks to the date after taking the first tablet. Does that sound about right?

I must admit after attending the consultation appointment I feel a lot better. Although I must of been worked up as they said my blood pressure and pulse was through the roof.

I guess what I am after is a bit of advice from those who have gone through this experience what makes the situation more bearable. My 2 children are going to be around so I need to make this as discreet as possible. Anyone got any tips on how they dealt with this situation with little ones around. The nurse said the pregnancy usually passes between 2 and 10 hours after taking the 4 tablets.

IWould you recommend taking the painkillers 2 hours before you insert the tablets and then at regular 2 hour intervals if needed and switch between Ibrufen and codeine or paracetamol and codeine.

Also do you just get the feeling that something is about to come out of you for you to rush to the toilet? This part is the most worrying for me I think.

Thanks in advance for any advice you can share.

Hi,

So sorry you’re going through this, as if a pandemic wasn’t bad enough!

I’ve just taken the second lot of tablets this evening and am currently waiting for things to finish.
I’ve also got two little ones so I waited until they were in bed before taking the tablets.
With the first, I had no side effects at all. Then 24 hours later I inserted the next 4. An hour before this I took 2 nurofen with codeine and a paracetamol. I lay in bed for 3 hours and was just about to take the next dose, as I didn’t think anything had happened, when I started bleeding and mild cramps.

The cramps were manageable, like early labour. Not a massive bleed at this point. About an hour later I started with lower back ache and felt a small ‘pop’. When I got up I could feel things moving and there was a lot of blood. I didn’t look but I think the worst is over.

It’s nearly 5 hours since taking the tablets and I’ve just taken some more paracetamol. It’s uncomfortable but nothing at all like I was worrying about. Obviously I don’t know what will happen in the next few hours but so far things have been manageable.

I was absolutely terrified of the whole process- complications and side effects. I’ve given birth vaginally twice, the most recent 9months ago, so was told ght hopefully my cervix would still be slightly open.
I haven’t had an overwhelming sensation to rush to the toilet but once I stood up I was pleased it was close by.

I’ve received so much support on here in the past couple of weeks. PleSe feel free to message if you’d like to chat or ask any more Flowers

I meant to add that it took me a while to finally decide on this and although I collected the tablets last Monday, I didn’t feel ready to go through with it at that point. Unfortunately that meant I was just over 8 weeks. That really concerned me as I’ve read horror stories about the process at that gestation but I needn’t have worried x

@sunandrose thanks so much for taking the time to respond to my message and for the information you were willing to share. I really appreciate it. It least it gives me an idea of what to expect.

Did you take 1 codeine and 1 paracetamol with the 2 nurofen? Did the clinic give you more tablets to put up than the 4 you originally took as the hospital didn't mention any further doses just the 4 they will give me to take the next day after taking the first one at the hospital.

I too will be just over 8 weeks when I do this so am praying its not a horrible experience.

How are you this morning? I hope you are over the worst.

xx

Hi @blondie678
how did the appointment go? Been thinking of you x

HI @sunandrose

How are you doing? Aww how kind thank you so much. It was absolutely fine. Thanks for asking. Its all over with now. I took the first tablet on Monday morning and had no side effects and the other tablets vaginally on Tuesday morning. By 12 noon I was bleeding heavily and passed some large clots which I am hoping was the fetus
which settled down by 2pm. I blead heavily for the rest of the day. I kept up with pain relief so the cramps were bearable.

Today i am still bleeding but lighter. I don't have that sickly feeling anymore which was horrible so thats a good sign but my breasts are still tender and tummy feels swollen still but they say that can take a few days.

The experience was much better than I anticipated. Its such a relief its over. I have a pregnancy test to take in 3 weeks so fingers crossed all is ok.

What about you? How are you doing?
xx
