Test still positive 8 weeks after termination

Hi everyone. I just wanted to see if anyone had the same experi as me. As the title says, I had a termination 8 weeks ago, at 6weeks. Tests were strongly positive 3 weeks later, but they did a scan and nothing to see. Since then I've had a period, but continued to have on and off spotting. It's been 8 weeks now, and the tests are still faintly positive. Is this normal, even after a period? Is it just taking a long time for the hormones to go away? Thanks in advance

I've had positive tests but it's only been 4 weeks. I had a scan and they said retained products so I now have to wait another 4 weeks to see what to do. Im sure if you've had a scan then they would have seen something so it just leftover hormones, they said it can take a long time to leave the body. Do you have any symptoms?

I think I would call them and ask in case it’s a new pregnancy.

No symptoms except ongoing spotting. Definitely cannot be a new pregnancy. Thanks for the messages, I suppose I'm just worrying there was something small that's somehow still there after my period. But good to know it can take this long for hormones to leave, if they've said for you to wait another 4 weeks, Babylon. Sorry you're in this boat x

Can I ask you what was the outcome as i am having the same issues. I am 7 weeks after termination, the test from the clinic was negative but the home tests are still faint positive. I think they are more faint each time but it is making me so nervous as it is still there slightly. I had a period 2 weeks ago and since then still spotting everyday. Although i started my mini pill at the same time.

Hi @Littlesunshine89 I am in the same situation - i had a termination 3 weeks ago so did the test from the clinic and it was a faint positive. I called the hospital who said did I bleed heavy and do I still have pregnancy symptoms and I said i thought i did bleed heavy and passed a few heavy clots but you don't know whats normal when you do it at home and don't have their professional guidance with you. Re pregnancy symptoms I definitely did before - very sore breasts, feeling very sickly, very tired etc but now I feel absolutely fine. . SHe said the hormones can take upto 2 months to leave the body so to repeat a test next week and if its still positive to ring back and they will get me in for a scan. If the test from the clinic was negative then I don't think you have anything to worry about as they say the shop bought ones are really sensitive and pick up the slightest hormone which can take a long time to completely leave the body. Why did you take a shop bought test if the clinic one was negative. How do you feel in yourself? If in doubt though i would ring the clinic just for peace of mind. They might arrange for you to have a scan. I hope all is ok.

Thank you so much for your reply,it made me feel a bit more at ease. I agree,it is so hard to tell what is right after the termination but i think once the symptoms goes away and bleeding was there for at leat 1 week it should be all good. I don't know why did i start to do home pregnancy test but it was a mistake haha. I think i am just very anxious about it,and wanted to see that went to negative too but i guess i need to wait one more week. But i think i should relax now. That is good that they offered you a scan at least that can put you at ease ☺i am sure it is just hormones for us.

@littlesunshine89 - its a good sign isn't it and like i say mine completely went within a few days so until I did the test I definitely thought it had worked just that faint positive is playing on my mind but hopefully all is ok.
