Medical termination, talk me through it please

I am due to have a medical termination on the 18th. I'll be just under 9 weeks I think.

I am 100%sure that I need to go through with this, my only concern is the termination itself if that makes sense. I read on another thread that I might recognise the shape of the foetus as it passes? It's that true at this early stage? Also, I'm sorry for asking this, but I have no idea what to expect in terms of pain and blood loss

And timing after the second set of tablets. No one knows I am doing this and I'm keen for that to continue.

I'm really struggling with tiredness and nausea too which is awful in the circumstances.

So I’m 24 hours on from taking the first pill and not planning on taking the 2nd until later when the kids are in bed.
However in the last half an hour I’m doubled up with pain and have started bleeding.
The pain feels very similar to early contractions.

I wonder if it could be happening without even taking the second pills.
Can’t even read the booklet or call the helpline as my kids are too close and needy!

I guess this means I will need to take the pills orally later?

Good luck and virtual hand hold Flowers

Confusion77 · 23/10/2019 18:41

@YelloThere I started bleeding before the second tablets too, so yes I did take them orally as advised at the appointment. They day nor to use them vaginally as they could just cone out with the bleeding. (They're not very big).

Have you taken pain reluef? If not I'd Take the higher dose of ibuprofen now and the codeine when you take the next pills.

Thanks lovely.
Well after the pain started I used the 4 tablets earlier than intended (1pm) I inserted them (because they didn’t tell me not to do that if I was bleeding) however it did work. And was much more painless than I expected (although that could be because I took 2 para 2 ibru and 1 codeine)
I assume it passed as I felt a ‘plop’... couldn’t see anything though as the toilet was filled with murky dark red blood.
But after that felt a sense of relief.
Not much pain at all but uncomfortable to be feeling all the blood coming out.
I get heavy periods anyway so it’s not nice!

I feel relief as now I don’t have to battle with my conscience anymore over the decision. I knew I didn’t want another baby, and I knew I couldn't afford it nor have any space / time.
But when you already have kids you can picture what another will look like or be like. And that you’re potentially aborting another carbon copy of your lovely little toddler.
I do feel guilty.

I hope you are ok confusion77 xx

I've been ok today, been out with the children , quite a bit of walking (but small children speed). Been bleeding a lot again the last 2 hours, after hardly anything since Saturday night. Moderate period type pains. I'm nor surprised as had anticipated it being much worse than it had been so far, but it's proving quite difficult to manage (the bleeding , unless I just sit on the loo all night).

Sorry I posted before I saw your reply. Hopefully that's most of it done with for you too, although as I said just now, I've had quite a lot again today, lots of large clots and honestly, pouring blood. (Sorry, but might as well say in case you get it too).

It is sad. But I know i would have struggled hugely. Bringing 2 up virtually on my own is hard going.

I get heavy periods that often end up on my bed through the night (even wearing big thick pads!) so I am expecting it’s gonna be a lot over the next week or so.
I’m doing a 5K fun run on Saturday that I can’t get out of so god knows what I’m gonna do for that. Maybe use an old nappy as well as a pad!

I’m glad you’re feeling well and you’ve been out and about. I think we’ve both been lucky so far with our experiences when I compare them to the scary stories you read from others.
It maybe helps that we’ve both had kids as we know what pains to look for / expect and that real labour is much worse!

Confusion77 · 23/10/2019 20:40

Hopefully you'll be ok for the run, I was fine during the day out, it's been since I got home that it's been pretty bad. I hope it's easing off now.

Haha yes my second child was nearly 11lbs so I know a bit about pain!

I thought I'd pop back for an update. I had some heavy bleeding and clots towards the end of last week. Still bleeding now but just like a normal period, couldn't be classed as heavy . Still passing the occasional clot. I think it's worked ok as the pregnancy symptoms have gone. The nausea and exhaustion are gone, thank god. I have no idea how I would have managed had I not terminated.

Thanks to everyone on this thread for your support. I haven't told anyone in real life, so this was a real life line for me.

Finally, I feel fine with my decision. I know it was the right thing for me and my family.

Hi @Confusion77 so glad it’s going well for you and you’re feeling back to normal.

It will be a week for me tomorrow and I have to say, other than the odd heavy flow of blood I’ve been totally fine. I might even say if it weren’t for the blood I may have sometimes forgotten what happened. Although that could be that I’ve been very busy this week.

I want to thank you too for your thread in the first place. Being able to talk to you knowing we were in very similar positions and doing the same thing was a comfort. It’s only me and OH who know about this and he avoids mentioning it as he probably worries it will upset me.

Confusion77 · 29/10/2019 10:04

Thanks @YelloThere , glad you are ok. Unfortunately I spoke too soon. Absolutely awful bleeding and clots today, literally falling out (sorry). I'm not sure what to do. I feel ok, but it's very extreme.

YelloThere · 29/10/2019 22:32

Oh no @Confusion77 I’ve only just seen your message now.
That sounds horrid and I hope you will be ok.
I know I got things like that in the weeks after having my kids so hopefully it is just the same rather than anything serious. Let me know how you are.

I seem to go from having a dry pad for half a day and assuming that’s it over to then having lots of blood again.

Today a close friend announced her pregnancy, she is due exactly 4 weeks before what my date would have been so that’s made me ponder a bit. No regrets still though x

Confusion77 · 30/10/2019 02:46

Hi @YelloThere. I'm.ok now thanks. I had a few hours of really awful bleeding, spent the whole time in the toilet. It's stopped now though, well just back to normal period type bleeding. God I really hope that's it now. I feel ok, though was utterly exhausted in the evening. Fingers crossed you don't experience the same.

I'm really glad this thread was able to help others as well as me. I was blown away by how supportive people were.

@Confusion77 How are you feeling now?
I'm still bleeding quite heavily and had a positive pregnancy test. They think I could have retained products Sad

Confusion77 · 08/11/2019 11:36

Hi @Babylon12. Oh no that's awful. What will you have to do? I did the test they gave me and wasn't sure if there was a very faint line. I've got a standard one which I will do next week but I no longer feel pregnant. I've had no bleeding since Monday night, well just very light spotting. I had a very very heavy bleed on Saturday too. Very difficult to deal with.

OP posts:
Babylon12 · 12/11/2019 19:37

@Confusion77 had a scan today and have retained products, they said to wait 4 more weeks to see if it passes naturally. I'm not looking forward to that, I feel like I can't move on and past this horrible experience as it's still going on. I'm on double antibiotics at the moment due to an infection. I hope you're feeling better now and the end is near for you Smile

Confusion77 · 12/11/2019 19:49

Oh no @Babylon12 that's awful! There's been another thread this week , same advice which I think is just terrible. I would have assumed they would do some sort of D & C (?? Think thats the term) straight away.

I've not had any bleeding since last Monday. Just spotting. So hopefully that's the end of it. I really hope you get sorted soon. If I EVER find myself in this position again I will try to go the surgical route . It seems so much less complicated.

Confusion77 · 15/11/2019 17:41

So, after reading your experience, and the other thread, today I decided to do a standard pregnancy test. The one I did 2 weeks ago was a specific post termination test. Today's was a standard cheapie. I have had no bleeding for almost 2 weeks apart from very light spotting. I've had occasional abdominal pain but it's been associated with constipation. And today this. This is in no way as strong as the original positive test I did , same brand. But it's still very much there.

Medical termination, talk me through it please

@Confusion77 hopefully it's just leftover hormones. My bleeding has nearly gone away just minimal amount when wiping for the last few days and no more pain. I'm really hoping my body either just gets rid of it or waits until my next period and gets rid then, only downside is that she said sometimes the pregnancy hormones can stop your next period coming. Fingers crossed for you.

Confusion77 · 15/11/2019 17:59

I really don't know what to think. It's 4 weeks today since I took the first tablet. This last couple of days I've had the odd bout of nausea but then I've had a rotten cold and DC1 has vomited with it. I was feeling shocking with morning sickness and exhaustion and that went within a couple of days of taking the pills.

I'm going to phone bpas tomorrow I think.
I'm glad you are feeling ok.

OP posts:
Babylon12 · 21/11/2019 22:28

How are you doing now @Confusion77?

Confusion77 · 21/11/2019 22:35

@Babylon12 thank you for thinking if me. Still no bleeding. I have spoken to bpas twice. I've told them everything that's happened, and they have said it sounds like I am not pregnant, but it can take 6 or so weeks for the hormones to go. The bpas test is 1000 mlu/ml whereas the supermarket one was 20mlu/ml. That's a HUGE difference . I have a scan booked for next Friday. Just to confirm, I'd be going mad with worry otherwise.

How are you ? Had anything further happened?

OP posts:
Babylon12 · 29/11/2019 13:22

@Confusion77 sorry my app doesn't alert me when you've posted. No more bleeding here, fingers crossed I get my period in a couple of weeks and it goes all on its own.
How did your scan go?

Confusion77 · 29/11/2019 14:04

Hi, scan was due to be later on but I've had to cancel due to no childcare. But, I think I've got a period. Started bleeding again, slightly different to normal but think that's to be expected. So I'm going to do another test before rebooking the scan. Finger crossed for you too!
