If you're having a surgical abortion?
Im 9 weeks and already had a failed medical abortion. I honestly don't know if i can cope with anymore pain.
I have an appointment on Thursday to discuss options but by the time this happens I'll likely be 10 weeks. Can i ask for a general anaesthesia?
I don't think i can cope otherwise.

They will, because recovery is much easier and you will need to stay longer in hospital.

Don’t worry about pain, the procedure won’t be painful with any kind of anaesthesia and pain after that will be same, no matter what used during the procedure.

If that’s your consideration then you really don’t need a GA.

EVERYTHING i have read suggests it's very painful with a local or sedation?
I have been bleeding and cramping on and off since taking the failed tablets and i just manually want it over with and done.

Talk to the anaesthetist and to the HCP who will perform the procedure, you will meet them before they start. Tell them, I'm sure they will listen to your concerns.
Good luck!

I had an abortion five years ago and I requested general. There was no resistance otherwise, I just stated that (selfishly) I could not handle the memory of the procedure. I would rather know that everything has passed while I was asleep.

I left within an hour or so of the procedure. Apparently I came round from GA quicker than they expected.

If it made any difference, I had my procedure at a Marie Stopes clinic.

I don't see why not. I had a GA for surgical management of miscarriage and I guess it's the same procedure basically? You'd have to fast from the night before and so it would probably take a bit more planning but is still a day case
