Medical abortion - what it's really like

I thought it would be useful to start the thread I wish had been there before I had my abortion. I mostly chose to have a medical abortion because it was an option I could have in one day, rather than coming back for a second appointment. I wish I'd known a bit more though before making my choice. I'd taken a couple of days off work, and they gave me the choice of having both pills on one day or taking them over two days. I opted for two days as it's more effective. The first day was absolutely fine, but the second was totally horrendous. I've not had a baby so can't compare to labour pains but it was excruciating, waves of pain and discomfort that I just couldn't relieve. They tell you it's like a bad period but that was so much worse. Mine lasted for around eight hours, and the following day I had severe cramps. I realise this won't be helpful for everyone but I would have liked to read about the reality before making the decision to have a medical abortion. If you have any questions please do ask.

I think its brave telling your story ,will help others looking for information or people who cant make up their mind on what to do.

Thanks for saying so. I would have liked to know this before I made my choice, so I hope it'll help someone else. But also important to point it that different people have a different experience, and for many it isn't as horrific as I found it. But I thought it useful to share that it can be.

Six weeks exactly. I wish I'd gone for surgical. It was not pleasant although it was only really one day of true awfulness. However it took me a good week to feel myself again. I have friends who have had surgical on a Friday afternoon and been fine by Monday (probably sooner).
