Termination consultation with NHS, what to expect

Name changed for usual reasons.

I have a termination consultation booked at my local hospital for next week when I will be 8 weeks or so along.

I'm already feeling pretty anxious about the whole situation and I was really just hoping someone could give me some advice on what to expect at the consultation, as well as how long it's likely to take (I have children to collect from childcare).

Apologies if this has been asked before, I did look but most posts seem to relate to bpas or Marie Stopes, rather than NHS.

Thank you

Should have added that I'm in Scotland if that makes any difference.

Hi I am sorry you never got any replies. I am facing this, an nhs abortion appointment in Scotland. Can I ask what happens?

Hi @Jellybabyj. I had my appointment yesterday and it was much less terrifying than I thought it would be. I arrived and was quickly shown into the scan room, where I had a quick scan with a sonographer. Couldn't see the screen as it was turned away.

Shortly afterwards I was called into speak to the doctor, discussed my reasons and options. I then saw a nurse, who took some blood and outlined the process (I've opted for a medical termination at home).

I hope everything goes smoothly for you. Everyone I met was kind and compassionate, which hasn't always been my experience of the healthcare profession. I hope you experience the same Thanks
