I am booked in for Friday, I've read lots on the internet and come to the conclusion that it will all be fine. Won't be comfortable or pleasant obviously but just focus on the fact that by the evening you'll be back home safe and sound x

brownbeauty · 06/05/2018 08:38

Aaw bless
I'm asking for general anaesthetic as I really don't want to remember any of this.
had a medical termination many years ago and I would not want to go through that again
No part of this is nice but I'm so thankful we atleast get the choice
Have you been told what you will need to take in with you?
I don't have any details apart from the address of the clinic and appointment time
Thanks

Hi Flowers
No not had details, just a text confirming appointment. I'm sure the nurse on the phone did explain what would happen on the day but I can't completely remember everything she said. I'm having GA too so I'm just going to turn up as prepared as possible not having eaten etc since the night before.
My appointment is at 11.30 and she did say I'd be there for most of the day Confused ...I'll take a book and some snacks for afterwards, pads etc.
Are you going with Marie Stopes?

brownbeauty · 06/05/2018 11:38

I'm with NUPAS in Manchester.
I've been reading a bit about it and I did actually look at the Marie Stopes website and read how the day is planned for a surgical.seems pretty straight forward.
I'll b taking extra pair of bottoms n big knicks n my own pads.
I guess we will wake up with a pad already in place but i believe it's the horrendous old style mattress pads.
If I'm not being too nosey can I ask how many weeks you are.
I was told ystrdy I'm 5 weeks.
Last weeks scan showed nothing.
Thanks

I had a surgical about 9 years ago. It was fine. They scanned me beforehand and then I waited in a room with other women before being taken through. The GA made me feel very hazy and woozy and I was very spaced out but I was aware of what was happening. I felt very sad but relieved. Afterwards I laid in a chair (a bit like a dentists chair) and had tea and biscuits until I was ready/allowed to leave. I felt overwhelmingly sad as I left but better when I got home. I remember lying in bed watching dvds and eating crap. Be kind to yourselves ladies.

BrownBeauty sorry I haven't replied before now! My sickness has been awful this week and I've not really left my bed.
To answer your previous question, I am 11 weeks. I didn't find out for a fair while because I had (or so I thought) a normal period. So given that I'm quite far along is a concern but in no way does it affect my decision.
I'm hoping tomorrow goes smoothly, I keep worrying they'll cancel on me or something Sad ...I've been of work with severe sickness for 4 weeks now and I'm so desperate to get my life back to normal and to feel well again.
I will let you know how it goes tomorrow, thank you for keeping me in your thoughts, you'll be in mine on Saturday x

Snowbake
Wishing u all the best for tomorrow..
U will b in my thoughts and prayers..
We definitely deserve to be well women again for our families and for ourselves..
I am so looking forward to a fresh start (and a glass of wine when I'm over it)
I have been reading a lot about how it feels to be put asleep as it's new for me..
all positive stories and apparently wake up with no sense of time..
I hope we sleep soundly..
Strangely I have been subconsciously looking after myself since I took the pregnancy test and I have refused all alcoholic drinks without even thinking twice..
I shall be putting the straw straight into the bottle next Friday..
much love to u
Go easy on yourself
Thanks

Thank you BrownBeauty it means a great deal to hear kind words especially when I have nobody to confide in right now.
I'm trying to relax this evening and keep telling myself the sickness (and the depression it brings) will be over soon. I am taking steps to be sterilised this year and so hopefully I will never have to go through this and hyperemesis again.

I'll post as soon as I am home tomorrow with an update.

Thanks again for the kind words, they mean more than you know Flowers

Snowbake
Sending u healing positive vibes.
Please do let me know how yr day goes.
I'm getting the nervous feeling now.
Told my 15 yr old son last night that I'm having a tummy op and will need looking after for a day or two.
He was more mature about it then hubby to be honest.
Atleast we will b home by the end of the day to feel that we can become ourselves again..
Hope it all goes well n easy for u my love
Thanks

Thank you again, I am in the waiting room now, my appointment is at 11.30. I'm hoping it's all over by 3pm x

snowbake · 11/05/2018 15:33

I am absolutely distraught, I was refused an abortion because my iron levels are at 8.3. I was rebooked for two weeks time with a warning that I'll be refused again if levels are not up to 9.0.
From the little research I have done this seems near impossible as it can take months for iron tablets to get levels up.

I have just got home and have no idea where to turn to next, I simply cannot wait another two weeks only to possibly be refused again, I will be almost 14 weeks then. I feel like I have reached a breaking point mentally and don't know what to do

brownbeauty · 11/05/2018 15:48

Aaaww honey.
that's heartbreaking.
Visit yr GP and tell them u need iron injections.
All this gearing up to be back to square one.
Did they not offer any suggestions to the crease it over the next two weeks..?
Thanks

Just to let you know my experience.

Slightly different circumstance as it was due to a missed miscarriage but the whole procedure was very quick. I barely bled afterwards, just what was like a light period for a week followed by another week or so of spotting.

My biggest issue was that due to being sick I had to be intubated during the GA and that's what caused the most pain the following day - they have you in an unnatural position so I felt like I'd been hit by a bus. No pain other than that. I doubt this would happen in your case.

I was out about 2 hours after the op. I'd say to expect your hormones to go a bit haywire afterwards and just be kind to yourself.

Really sorry to hear about your experience Snowbake. I'm not sure how much it will help but I know spatone is absorbed much more easily than iron tablets. You could always take 2 sachets a day along with the tablets. Maybe ask for iron injections as already suggested. It seems very unfair to leave you in this situation. I'm currently suffering from hyperemesis - are you on any medication? If not I'd go to the GP and demand ondansetron. It's been the game changer for me, they can be reluctant to prescribe it due to supposed lack of evidence about risk to baby but this isn't relevant in your situation.

Hope I haven't said anything insensitive. Flowers

Snowbake
