Period late after taking morning after pill

I am married with one child, and have no desire for a second child. I took hormonal contraceptives for many years and finally tired of the impact it was having on my health, so switched to using condoms about a year ago. I have a fairly low sex drive, so it is not unusual for us to only have sex one or twice a month, so condoms are no bother really.

Last month we had sex whilst both a bit drunk. As DH pulled out, the condom unfortunately remained inside me. I track my periods on an app, and could see I was at a particularly fertile point in my cycle. I took the morning after pill the following morning. About 12 days later I had my period, right on schedule.

I was due another period 4 days ago. My periods, since being off hormonal contraception, have been very regular. Sometimes one day earlier than predicted, but never ever late.

I have done a pregnancy test, which has come back negative, and I have no other symptoms of pregnancy. Could this lateness be caused by taking the MAP last month? I desperately don’t want another child, we have now been talking about more definite methods of contraception. I just feel so anxious about this whole thing, and am wondering where the hell my period is?! Any similar experiences out there?!

Well the MAP mucked up my periods for a couple of months. When they started being regular again it was on a completely different day when they originally was.

Thanks for replying, that is actually really reassuring to hear!

Mine came about 20 days late after taking the MAP earlier this year.

20 days!! Crikey! Still no sign of mine, I guess it will turn up when it feels like it!

I was worried. I Did do a pregnancy test to double check.

I’m not surprised - bet it was so nerve wracking. I felt sick waiting for the pregnancy test to show it’s result.

Hell yes. I have grandchildren!!

The map failed for me. But I didn't have any kind of bleeding at all so hopefully the fact that you've had a bleed means things should be ok.

Update: it’s arrived!! Hoo-bloody-ray!

Thanks for input everyone
