Medical abortion tomorrow-im scared

So my appointment is tomorrow. I'm so nervous and scared. Only 1 friend knows about it. So haven't spoken about it much. I've been off work the past 2 days because of the bad morning sickness!

I'm going to have to take both tablets at the same time as I can't get anyone to look after my DS for another day. This is what's worrying me. I've seen the risks are higher and the chance of it not working are higher which is really worrying me. Anyone took both pills at the same time and it's been ok. I can't be more than 4 weeks.

Anyone?

I have and it worked fine.
Just be prepared for really bad period type cramps for a day or two. I was literally doubled over in pain but took some strong painkillers and slept. Once it's passed it's all fine and you'll feel ok. Don't have baths, use tampons or have sex for a few weeks after to avoid infections.
Good luck and just think in a few days you'll be free of all this worry and feeling well again. Also most clinics offer a counselling service if you need someone to talk to afterwards

Chocolatteandbiscuits · 25/10/2017 14:18

Thank you. What kind of pain killers did you take? Is paracetamol ok or do you need stronger? I'm a single mum so need to be able to look after my D'S who's 16 months

I needed stronger. Think it was cocodamol I took. You would probably be ok with paracetamol every few hours and making sure you sit down as much as possible. Try and plan as lazy day as you can with your child and just watch films together or something (easier said than done when he's only 16 months old I know). Good luck

Blackcatonthesofa · 25/10/2017 14:31

I had to insert two pills and then two pills again the next day. I was 8 weeks though so further along. Paracetamol wasn't enough for me but could be for you at 4 weeks. Just get some ibuprofen just in case. That would have been enough for me. It took a little over 3 days which was longer than they expected. It's not too bad if you take painkillers throughout the day. Think of it as a bad period. Get a hot water bottle in the evening and have a nice lie down on the couch. You'll be ok.

Lolalovespugs · 25/10/2017 14:58

I had the pills and a pessary at the same time. I drove home thinking I would be doubled over any second.

In fact I took the tablets at 12pm, nothing until slight cramping and slight bleeding at 5pm. Passed the sac at 7pm, bleeding just like a period for a couple of weeks.

I didn't need painkillers even though the clinic gave me co-codamol. Not even neurofen and no heavy blood loss.

I was 5 weeks 5 days. They sent me away at my first apt at 4 wks as the pregnancy was too small to be located so be aware that may happen.

Hope all goes well.

Thanks everyone for your advice/stories. Makes me feel less alone in all this. Oh no lola I pray that's not the case with me! I just want this over with asap, I don't think I can deal with the sickness for a few more weeks.

OP, just FYI that number provided by laura is an anti-abortion group so I would advise you not give them a ring.

I can't offer any personal advise, but I hope all goes well, and I think it sounds like it might be worth asking for prescription painkillers. Best of luck.

Chocolatteandbiscuits · 25/10/2017 19:13

Thanks for warning Me! I feel bad enough as it is. Without having to deal with that too.

Hi op - I was given some codeine to take if I needed it. That was with bpas. Hope it goes ok for you xx

Chocolatteandbiscuits · 26/10/2017 08:20

Thank you roast. Very nervous, I just hope they don't say I'm too early to have it.

Teddy7878 · 26/10/2017 12:53

Good luck. I think it's very rare for abortions to go wrong. I'm sure you'll be absolutely fine

littlechous · 26/10/2017 13:00

Good luck OP, you’ll be fine

glovesonstrings · 26/10/2017 13:07

Good luck OP. Be kind to yourself

roastandyorkies · 26/10/2017 14:51

It's unlikely to go "wrong". However they should give you a list of things to look out for that may indicate non or only partial success or infection etc. But the failure rates are very low I believe. And in my experience, if things do go wrong the support is still there x

Chocolatteandbiscuits · 26/10/2017 15:00

Thanks for your reassurance. I would probably feel better if I had someone with me but I don't :(. I had it about hour and half ago and now waiting for it to begin!

OP posts:
Blackcatonthesofa · 26/10/2017 20:58

How are you feeling OP?

Chocolatteandbiscuits · 27/10/2017 07:54

I'm ok thank you black the cramping has stopped now. Just still quite tired. Trying to rest as much as possible. Not sure how that's going to go with a toddler though!

Hi chocolate

Im going through the same thing in just over a weeks time. Im terrified to say the least.
Do you mind if i ask how long it took for the pills to work and did you have them all the same day?
Ive got just over an hours drive home after and im worried i wont make it back in time before they get to work Sad

Chocolatteandbiscuits · 29/10/2017 09:29

hi frazzle

Id say it took roughly 2 hrs to start bleeding and cramping lightly. I had both tablets at the same time. I took them at half 1 and the pain got really bad about 5ish. So 4.5 hours. Nurse said pregnancy usually passes between 4-7 hours after taking the tablets. The nurse and doctor were lovely and werent judgmental at all.

Anyone whos been through this, how long did your cramps last? I had really bad ones this morning took pain killers and it seems to have worked but i dont want this every morning :(

Teddy7878 · 30/10/2017 10:09

How are you feeling? Sorry it took me so long to reply. Hope you're over the worst of it by now! It took me about 48 hours for the cramps to go. But I had bleeding for about 4 weeks (heavy for about 10 days and then light for the rest of the time). Think everyone is different though as my friend didn't really suffer at all when she had hers and only bled for a week

Frazzles99 · 30/10/2017 12:38

How are you feeling chocolate?
