Sensitive question but where do terminated babies go?

Before I met my DH I was with a abusive (not physical) but a horrible man. I was only 18 and ended up pregnant and scared and found myself forced into a termination.

That was 14 years ago to the day, it has brought up the question of what happens after?

I had the termination in the hospital and at the time have no knowledge of being told what happends and where.

I've tried to google but no avail.

Would it if been the local crem or do they do it in house?

This sounds insensitive, but I think at an early gestation, they are incinerated with medical waste, and at a later gestation at a crematorium, guidelines at oUr local hospital recently changed, and I am more familiar with what would happen from around 14+ weeks. I know that with a termination for abnormalities at one of our local hospitals, if you ask for a cremation, you are likely to get one, but I believe one would not be routinely offered.

What happened 14 years ago may be different, probably based on the gestation and which hospital trust you were under.

I found a guide online that said women should be given the options and all the info but that must be quite a recent thing perhaps then as I certainly don't remember being told anything like that.

Yes, I do think that at that gestation it would have been incineration. But bumping in case anyone else knows? Last year I reviewed an nhs document in our area for a bereavement midwife and I'm pretty sure that was how earlier second trimester losses were handled. I had to get my red pen out a lot and the wording wasn't very sensitive at all!

I'm sure it is incineration along with other medical waste. I'm a nurse but have never worked on a gynae ward- my colleague sometimes does bank shifts there so next time I see her I'll ask. I had a medical termination at home (8 weeks 4days pregnant) and flushed it down the toilet 😢😢 it came out of me in bed but I didn't know what to do with it so I wrapped it in tissue and flushed it away.

According to BPAS foetal tissue is generally incinerated, it can be requested that the foetus is incinerated individually, you can have the ashes of the foetus or even take it home to bury it. None of these options were given to me when I had my termination (not that I went through BPAS)

A friend of mine was a hospital chaplain. One of her duties was to accompany all aborted and miscarried foetuses to the incinerator and to say a prayer of blessing and commendation. She said it was one of the hardest parts of her job.
