Heavy bleeding

Hi Ladies, just after some advice please.

I had a medical termination on Wednesday, as a day patient in the hospital. The examination afterwards came up fine. My bleeding for the past few days has been moderately heavy, with no pain or cramping, and the odd clot.

Today has been completely different. Since 10am I've had huge clots, lots of heavy bleeding. I soaked 4 maxi pads in the space of an hour and have so far gone through a whole 12 pack of them. I even ended up soaking through the front of my trousers while I was out (thank god they were dark trousers so it didn't show). It seems to have slowed down, and I'm still passing the occasional large clot but throughout it all there's been no pain. I don't have a fever, I don't feel unwell, I'm just bleeding a hell of a lot.

I don't think it warrants a trip to A&E, especially as I'm not in pain, should I just call the ward tomorrow and chat to one of the nurses about it?

Call the aftercare number they gave you as soon as you can. Don't mean to alarm but that level of bleeding sounds like it needs medical attention.

can't remember what the guideline is exactly but I thought if you're soaking through 2 pads an hour that's too much?

Also have you been especially active today? This can cause an increase in bleeding but you should call the ward for advice asap.

It started while I was laid in bed this morning, not active at all. It was just like a sudden gush and when I waddled to the loo I found I'd passed a huge clot. And that's what it was like for the next 4 hrs. Gush, big clot, gush, big clot. But zero pain. Now it's just like heavy period, big clot, heavy period etc. I tried to call the ward but they are Monday to Friday only, and closed at weekends.

Did they definitely not give you and after care number?

I know if you go through Marie stopes /bpas they have 24hr numbers for any problems ..

GreenFeathers · 19/04/2015 18:13

I've just had a look at Marie stopes website and this might be useful?

Their aftercare number is 03453008090. Sure if you ring them an adviser would speak to you even though you had the procedure on nhs.

GreenFeathers · 20/04/2015 09:37

How are you now OP?

Clemmers · 20/04/2015 10:29

Hi Greenfeathers, I'm much better thank you. Because it stopped on its own and I'd had no pain/felt well in myself, they weren't overly concerned. I was just advised to rest and if it starts again then to get to hospital. I've had a couple more large clots since but no heavy bleeding.

Glad you're ok, was on your original thread (under a different name). Thanks

Hopefully that's the worst of it over. Give them a ring back if it starts up again. I had very heavy bleeding after my medical procedure for quite some time. I don't think that was normal though. I ended up having to have an erpc because not everything cleared out. With any hope that will be the end of it for you.

I hope you're doing okay apart from that. I was also on your other thread under a different name.
