Hi all,
So it's been nearly 2 years since I had a episode of glandular fever and not once did I think how the consequences would affect having another baby...so here's the story...
Currently 13+2 weeks with 2nd baby - I saw the obstetric consultant yesterday. I have non-chirrotic portal hypertension and an grossly enlarged spleen which is a whopping 28cm. If I get to delivery it will be an elective forceps and can happen anytime from 32 weeks depending on growth scans every 2-4 weeks from 20 weeks. They will only let me go as far as 36 at the latest and will induce me. They won't let me push baby out due to the pressure it will put on my portal vein system and spleen and will only elect to a c section in a emergency situation - again do to the pressure. They also need to control the possibility of another post partum hemmorhage due to a previous one with my first born. The consultant mentioned up to a 20% risk of developing varicies which could bleed out internally obviously very serious. The outcome for baby obviously depends on when he or she is delivered with regards to needing NICU. If it was just me I'd risk it to give my baby a chance, but I have my first born who is Autistic to think of should anything happen to me...
The consultant did mention that termination is a option to eliminate the risks to my heath altogether. I know this but don't think I have the strength enough to go through with that...
What do I do? I have never been so torn up inside. I'm trying not to blame myself...this is a much loved and wanted baby.
Thanks for reading x
