Rhesus Negative & Spotting

I don't know why this didn't occur to me earlier. I'm rhesus negative and a week ago I had some spotting. I'm 7 weeks and this is my first child. I also had an early scan yesterday and there was a heartbeat.

So what does this mean? I'm thinking its too late for the injection now but don't know how it works really, is there a high risk of problems now?

I had spotting right at the beginning - about 8 weeks - and am rhesus negative.

At that point they didn't know I was rhesus negative so didn't even consider giving me an injection.

I am 30 weeks now and all fine. Maybe call your midwife/doctor tomorrow to check, but I'm sure it'll be ok. x

I have an inkling that spotting during the first trimester isn't usually a problem from a Rh -ve pov, but please check this yourself with your GP and don't rely on my baby brain of a memory! But yes if you did need the injection you'd have had to have it within 72 hours.

I think at 7 weeks it would not be a problem. I am rh neg and had a mc at 7 weeks in January and it wasn't even mentioned. Someone posted on here recently having had the same thing and was told at this early stage it is not necessary. I was offered it at 16 weeks for an episode, but it was just slightly bloody discharge, not spotting and I declined it - there was nothing wrong with the baby or placenta, so the blood most likely came from outside the cervix, so not the baby. I am 25 weeks now and all is fine.

Ok, thanks for the replies. I'll call tomorrow in any case.

Hi, I am RH- and had spotting at the beginning of my pregnancy.

The DR said I would only need the anti d injection if I spotted after 12 weeks.

HTH.

Yep, it's only after 12 weeks. I had spotting at 15w4d and had an injection then; then again at 17 weeks and was advised to have it again as it was a fresh bleed.

But after my last m/c (at about 8 weeks) I was given it - however my previous 3 m/c were all before 12 weeks and I wasn't given it. My midwife was horrified when I told her I hadn't had it before that, so I don't know if it's a different story with m/c?

Yes I believe you need it if you have a miscarriage or termination before 12 weeks.
