I have been prescribed pregaday for low iron - Im 35 weeks pregnant.

Thing is Im feeling really nauseaus since taking them and not sure if its the tablets or not. Just wondered if anybody else had found nauseaua to be a side effect or iron tablets?

Thanks

I took pregaday during my first pregnancy and absolutely hated it, not because it made me feel sick, but because it gave me really bad constipation. My midwife recommended Floradix, which is liquid iron that you get from health food shops, which was brilliant (there has been a thread about this a while ago singing its praises). With my second pregnancy I once again had low iron levels, but this time my GP prescibed Fersamal (sp?) syrup, which seemed similar to Floradix, but I got free instead of having to pay over £6 a bottle for Floradix. HTH

I was prescribed iron tablets by my doctor when pregnant with ds. I seem to remember feeling a bit nauseous as well. I think it depends a bit on when you take them. Do you take them with food or not? My midwife told me that as I was borderline it wasn't worth the constipation and not to bother. Are you really that anaemic or is it the doctor being over cautious. It might be worth talking to your midwife and discussing whether it is a) vital to take the iron and b)what other options there are. Good luck.

Becca - the only thing I found with Pregaday, like everyone else has noted, was that they made me horribly constipated! They gave me laxatives to counteract it. Nasty!

I took it for the grand total of 1 weeks this current pregnancy. And no matter what I tried, no matter what time of day or what I ate with it, I was vomitting withing an hour. Even on those rare days when I don't have pregnancy sickness.

So yes that stuff made me feel bloody ill. I too would recommend going the Floradix route and you should be able to get this from most health food shops. Or ask your Doctor for a liquid aupplement, I find these less harsh on my stomach.

Good luck.
