What consultant said is different to what he wrote?

I had a consultant appointment last week, my blood pressure was ok not normal but not too high either the consultant said "ok lets carry on as we are with the medication then" which I took to mean lets stay on the same dose, which I have done. I just flicked through my notes this morning as I was feelign unwell and was looking for the leaflet they gave me about when to call etc and happened to see what he has written. He has written "200mg twice daily" which is double the dose I was on before...(the medication is labetalol for high blood pressure). I have done my blood pressure at home and its quite high this morning I also have a headache and swelling so I am going to phone them but I am worried that I have been taking the dose wrong!

would you think what he said was correct or what he had written?

Definitely phone them and go and speak to the consultant ASAP. He's made a mistake, either in the telling you part or in the writing down part. Pre-eclampsia is such a dangerous thing that with any of these symptoms I'd be ringing hospital right now.

Phone his secretary this morning. I would also, in the meantime, be phoning your MW for a check up as he may not be able to get back to you straight away. She'll be able to check you over and hopefully reassure you.

If your BP was high last week it is quite possible that he opted to increase your medication, but the fact that your bp is high today may indicate that the drugs are not holding it. You need to call the hospital, they might want to run some blood tests to make sure you are ok.
