and crossed posts! Thank you

Magic8ballhastheanswers · 20/08/2010 18:59

hello ladies, booked in today, saw lubberly bereavement midwife so feel quite reassured that all in place to keep us three as safe as poss! Lots and lots of appointments to follow, seeing 2nd Trim loss consultant next week which is good. She has said that I will have a c-section at 37 weeks because they are identical (all being good). So that's 3 weeks shaved off the end......so 27 & 1/2 weeks to go.......

Hope all well this eve, will come back this weekend and catch up properly as DD off to MIL for weekend Grin Whooop whoop sleeeeeeeeeep!!! Grin

hippychick66 · 20/08/2010 20:30

alba - just to let you know lia is a doula - she can probably tell you lots about it.

magic8 I had no idea there was such a thing as a bereavement midwife. good luck with your two little-uns. How exciting to have identical twins. Grin

i really must stop watching this thread cos i'm not even preg at the moment but can't help adding comments.

Alternatively, I'll just do my best to get preg again asap so that I can be on here legitimately. Grin

toomuchteaching · 20/08/2010 21:47

Hey all, quick one as in France, weather gorgeous but cheese and wine... grr Angry.

One year today since MC. Had a small cry and a toast with DH over lunch. It's so crap how it gives you so many dates to feel sad... its due date, anniversary, number of weeks into your new pregnancy... but I'm finally passed them all for the first time, which is something I guess.

Just wanted to pop in and say welcome to newbies, hello to oldies, and fingers crossed it all happens soon for top of the list ladies. I'll be back before school starts again, so take care all... have an uneventful 10 days.

TMT xx

Hopefully · 21/08/2010 10:57

Magic8 well done on being booked in! I haven't actually phoned doc/MW yet to arrange booking in appointment, as was convinced things would go wrong. 8 weeks and so far no visible problems, so I may have to actually get round to it on monday.

No news from meita for a couple of days - maybe there's big news!

Have awkward house guest situation - he won't leave! Was only meant to be staying one night, but has openly said he has no plans for tonight (although he has a tent with him). I know we should offer to put him up tonight, but I just can't be bothered. he's perfectly civilised and nice, but I am so tired, hormonal and short tempered that I just can't bear another evening of being polite and hiding my yawns! DP has taken him swimming with DS, so fingers crossed he'll leave after that.

TMT thinking of you - must be a hard date, even being PG again.

Debating forking out for a private scan next week (if they can fit me in). It's £90 that I really can't afford to spend, but I just hate the idea of waiting another 4 weeks to find out if everything's OK. Feel I've used up the goodwill of my GP getting one early scan - more might be pushing it slightly!

AlbaDeTamble · 21/08/2010 11:41

Toomuch, I'm with you on the dates... Due date for MMC coming up on Thursday. Friend of mine with son the same age as DS has just given birth to her second and colleague at work also due this week. I know it's great that I'm pg, but bar 3 weeks in feb I've been pg for 9 months now so probably more run down than I should be and hugely hormonal and feel like January is ages away... so it's giving me lots of teary moments. Hoping when this cold's gone and the milestone passed I'll get my mojo back...

hopefully, my scans were admittedly a little cheaper, but I think they were worth every penny for stress management... I'd book if I were you

Sam, hope you're feeling a little more comfortable today

Meita · 21/08/2010 12:30

Hi all!

Nothing happening here... am slowly losing patience! We have been resorting to SWI - though a different sort of 'I' as when TTC Wink. Also, first stretch marks starting to appear ... grumble (though I suppose I should count myself lucky). Well, can't be long now. My mum appears to be even more impatient than me Grin.

Jacanne so good of you to drop in! Huge congratulations on your daughter. How are her sisters getting along?

SamB don't know what exactly you should be doing with the ball... for me it all worked out well in the end. Even when they are already engaged, they can still turn. Mine went from back-to-back, to back to front right, to back to left right (where it is supposed to be). I just took care to lie on my left as much as possible and lean forward rather than backwards when sitting, and I really used the ball mainly for relaxing a bit/taking the weight off other points. Maybe that would help with your other pains too? Anyway, congrats on reaching 7 months!

Unbuffy glad to hear you're feeling a little calmer. Given you're so worried about hospital, is there any chance you could go for homebirth?

Clareanna so good that the bleeding has stopped. Even when you know the reason, it just keeps you on edge...

Alba I can understand not pursuing the complaint. It's just not the highest priority, is it? How's your cold? (Oh, and what a great namechecking catch-up!)

Welcome stuffedMK and congratulations!

Magic8ball I'm glad you are being looked after properly!

TMT I hope your hols just get better and better now!

Meita · 21/08/2010 12:31

duh - that's supposed to read "back to front left" obviously. sry.

Hopefully · 21/08/2010 13:38

Alba we had a private scan with DS, and it did relax me immeasurably. But we were richer then! Scan expensive as it's the only place for miles that does them, and it's still cheaper than schlepping off to another big city and having a cheaper scan.

Meita sorry there's not action yet Smile. My mum didn't phone me every day, but every time I phoned her she'd ask if I was in labour. My stock response was, "oh, yes, didn't I mention the regular agonising contractions I'm having as we speak?" DP's dad phoned once for an update and DP sarcastically said that we'd already had the baby, but had forgotten to tell him. His dad started to cry Hmm Grin. I would care more if his dad wasn't a lunatic.

Magic8ballhastheanswers · 21/08/2010 14:03

Hang in the Meita :) and bravo for SWI!

Hopefully I did a self referral for booking after my scan as I am already under the second trim loss consultant there. I did go to my GP to let them know but I wont see them again as I am having full hospital care. It's daunting having your booking in I know, but you are pregnant and it is progressing well so far so get on the phone woman! :) Once you are booked in your care will start :) and it is better that they know. I would try your GP for another referral or can you self refer? I was going to have another scan yesterday as the EPU has a walk in but I chickened out as I was on my own.

Hugs Alba my due date for my MMC is on Wed so I am with you on that one. I am over the amount of weeks when it happened now which is hurdle 1 but still have hurdle 2 to jump which is getting over 10 weeks as this was when I started bleeding with DD2.....there are 3rd and 4th hurdles but I will come to these nearer the time! TooMuch I am glad you are over all your dates now, it is such a long and winding journey, I hope you can relax now and enoy our holls - Salut Envy Grin

Redheadgal · 21/08/2010 18:08

Righty. Swinging by briefly as at my parents and we're off out for a curry. Had scan yesterday and all's well. Massive relief as I'd been so worried. My anti-convulsant medication increases the risk of anomalies such as spina bifida and cleft palate so I was bricking it. Thankfully no sign of any problems. We also found out the sex and we're having a little girl! It feels so much more real now. I'm actually going to have a baby.

I'll be back in the next couple of days to catch up and name check. It's amazing to finally have broadband again ;-)

Waves to everyone in the meantime!

Meita · 22/08/2010 12:33

Redheadgal congratulations on your positive scan and on having a little girl! You must feel a ton lighter :)

Soooo after dreaming of breaking waters a few days ago, this night it was the real thing Grin. But as there aren't any contractions in sight, we were, as expected, sent back home. Now I have until Monday evening to get labour started, or I'll be induced. (Question to the pro's on here: Can I/would it maybe make sense to bargain for an extra day or so before being induced? Is the "48 hours after SROM" rule sensible or just one of those standardised rules that don't let your body get along with things at its own pace?)

In any case, it won't be much longer now phew.

Magic8ballhastheanswers · 22/08/2010 13:33

Glad all well Redhead and lovely pink news!

Not long Meita hope things speed up for you. I doubt they will bargain with you for an extra day due to risk of infection because your waters have gone. Go for a wonder and see if gravity helps you along.........keep us posted!!!

Some worrying news from magic8 towers my sisters waters started to go yesterday Confused She is almost 29 weeks, they have given her steriods/antibiotics and will do a scan tomorrow. I hope that little boys hangs in there. Fills me with dread though having been there myself although she is much further along than I was. Poor love, the waiting game is the pits :(

AlbaDeTamble · 22/08/2010 15:25

Meita hope those contractions are getting going already so there need be no debate and wishing you an easy labour. I'm no professional, but I gather those rules are for good reason, as magic also said, in case of infection. Much better safe than sorry. And induction really needn't be so bad especially at term. I was induced with DS, no cascade of intervention and relatively quick and easy labour. In no time you'll be cuddling your baby Smile

Magic thinking of you and your sister, terribly worrying for you all though current neonatal care is incredibly good, there are plenty of success stories for 29 weeks. Must be especially upsetting though given your experience. Big un-MN hug for you.

Hopefully · 22/08/2010 16:00

Meita my hippy friend didn't tell hosp when her waters went, and her contractions started about 60 hours after water went. When she told hosp (during labour) that her waters had gone such a long time ago, they seriously ticked her off, and said it was a huge risk, especially as she went on to have a very long labour, so it was a v. long time between waters breaking and baby out. They could have just been cross that she didn't tell them, of course, but I would guess there's some evidence to suggest that 48 hours is a sensible maximum. Incidentally, spicy food may have helped me - I had a mega hot pizza the night before going into labour. You never know, right? Grin

Magic8 fingers crossed for your sister - hope her waters stay intact and labour isn't imminent.

On the subject of waters, I had to have my waters broken - something that annoys me, as there was no need to break them (had only been in labour 6 hours at that point, and was managing OKish), and my labour experience went downhill fast from that point, possibly another contributing factor to the ginormo-tear. If I was having another natural delivery I would specifically state that i didn't want my waters broken except in a medical emergency or major failure to progress.

Muser · 22/08/2010 16:03

Fingers crossed for magic8's sister and Meita. Hope all goes ok.

clareanna · 22/08/2010 16:53

Best of luck meita those waters are a messy business! My contractions started about 5 hours after waters went.
magic hope your Sis is ok

Hey- any news from boodle?

OP posts:
randomimposter · 22/08/2010 18:19

Go meita, GO meita! FWIW my local health authority only gave me 24 hours after waters breaking before they induced me with DS (NICE guidelines were 72 hours), and yes it was all about infection. FX you get going on your own. GOOD LUCK x

boodleboot · 22/08/2010 19:02

ooh exciting times afoot on this thread!! good luck to meita....hope ur labour is kind to you....nows not the time to quibble about extra days i would say....the prime objective is to deliver healthy baby after all so best to trust the medical profession.....so excited for you.

Magic Your midwife experience sounds fantastic. I really wanted to talk to someone when I miscarried but my idiot GP said it was one of those things and not what midwives were there for. I has since found out this is not what the midwives think... It will be lovely to have a date when you know the babies will be born ? what a luxury! I imagine by 37 weeks you will have had quite enough. I?m really sorry to hear about your sister. Although it isn?t desirable it is ok if babies are born at 29 weeks. I?ll be keeping everything crossed.

Toomuch I have already requested a food hamper containing champagne, parma ham, salami and camembert to be brought to the post-natal ward by DH and the girls. I miss my favourite foods so much. I have also got to the stage where I think that a glass of something red would be extremely nice.

Hopefully I really wanted an early scan and DH was resolute that we didn?t need one. I was desperate for reassurance. In the end I was convinced that there was no reason why I would miscarry again, especially having had two children already. He really worked hard to convince me to enjoy being pregnant and not to worry about things that hadn?t happened ? the time for worrying is when they have happened. I guess I was lucky as all was well for me and in the end I traded an early scan for a 4d scan later on!

Redheadgirl Congratulations on your scan. It makes it so much more real doesn?t it. After my 20 week scan I saw my midwife for a follow up appointment. I said to her that I had only just started to believe that I would end up with a baby. She thought I was mad! Sometimes I still can?t believe that in two months there will be someone else living in our house and my life will have changed so much!

Meita What fabulous news! I am thinking of you and hoping that it is all going well. My daughter was born 20 minutes after my waters broke which was pretty stressful at the time. I really hope that you are contracting away as I type and that by tomorrow Mr Meita will be posting with exciting news!

Boodle You are going to be top of the list really soon now...how exciting. BH are kicking in here too. I don?t remember them before which is odd now I think of it. I?ll sort you out on the list ? it was probably me who muddled it up Blush.

I think that there may be some minor improvement in my back and bump pain although I wouldn't want anyone to get over excited. I seem to have had to lie down much less today than at the end of last week, but am still uncomfortable a lot of the time. I am seeing the consultant and having a scan on Tuesday so I will be able to discuss it further then. I am sleeping a bit better too which is really nice. The days are so much easier when you haven't been up all night.

I even went out and picked blackberries near our house yesterday and turned them into jam this morning. It's lovely and was worth the back ache!

This must be a massive post so I'll stop, hello to everyone I didn't name check, SB x

Gi1da · 22/08/2010 19:42

Good luck Meita hope things all fall into place sooner than later. Enjoy that hot pizza!

Magic8 fx for MagicSis.

Gotta go. Thought I had a few minutes but Dh needs feeding and it's my turn, well he's done all the cooking this week and all I have to do tonight is put some salad, bread and cheese on the table. Apparently Roquefort is ok according to the French so will be having a cheeserama. (someone kindly posted a French duffer food guide link on the dec thread. I'll try find it another time).

Ooops Dh looking increasingly wan!

Love to all x

Hopefully · 22/08/2010 20:06

SamanthaB glad your back/bump is improved. I love jam making, but do not love the first trimester, so have done no hedgerow scavenging yet this year!

We have decided (almost definitely* to not have an early scan. Although it would be nicer to know sooner than later if anything has gone wrong, we have to consider (a) we can't afford it in any way, (b) if something has gone wrong, we'll have a few months off TTC anyway so I'm not 8.5 months pg at our wedding next year, so no urgency (how grim and clinical is that?!) and (c) just because everything is OK at 8/9 weeks doesn't mean there won't be problems later, and I don't want to assume everything will be OK just because we've seen a heartbeat or whatever.

SamanthaB123 · 22/08/2010 21:18

Hopefully I understand why someone would have an additional scan but I kind of agree with your decision. Right now you are pregnant and should enjoy the hope that it brings, SB x

LeeWT · 22/08/2010 21:46

magic i have twin envy!!! how exciting!!!

meita i dont think i can contain myself!! we need pictures (after you get through the small matter of labour!) best of luck

boodle i notices on fbook that you are struggling with heartburn etc. my acid reflux was really bad and my gp put me on losec - AMAZING!! completely changed my quality of life from horrendous to some sleep! and top of the list Grin

As for me, i have my 34 week appointment, a bit late for some reason and I should be given a date for my c-section. Has anyone here had more than one section? if so would appreciate advice xxx
