Low-lying Placenta - anyone experienced this?

I just had my 20 wk scan and have been told that my placenta is low. I know the chances are that it may move up - I have another scan at 34 weeks - but I just wanted to be prepared for what to expect if it doesn't. Thanks!

Hi Cavy, when I was pregnant last year at my 20 week scan the tip of the placenta was touching the cervical os, just as yours is. When I was re-scanned at 32 weeks it had moved away by 5cm which was plenty. The advice I was given re exercise was not to do anything too "bouncy" or lift any weights - so swimming was just fine but jogging wouldn't be, just in case. HTH.

My placenta remained low - it was nto completely covering cervix but a c-sec was recommended by my consultant. All went well and I must (reluctantly) admit that the c-sec was much easier with a quicker recovery time than my natural birth with dd1!

I don't think you should worry about it unless you have any sign of spotting. I had a low-lying placenta which didn't move at all so by the 34 week scan they could see I had placenta praevia grade 4. I went on to have a very calm and lovely c-section at 37.5 weeks.
However, during the whole pregnancy I had no bleeding whatsoever so I was a bit blase about it all and got all huffy about the no-sex bit as well. That was until my midwife told me how serious it can be and that shut me up good and proper. Chances are, your placenta will move and you'll be fine. The time you'll be abstaining from full on rumpy pumpy is very small when you put it into perspective. Try not to worry and take good care of yourself.

I have just had my 20 week scan and been told the same about the placenta. I haev been getting a pain, always in the same place and very low down just above my pubic bone.. has anyone else had this pain? I just wonder if its where the placenta is attached.. It hurts especially with lifting, turning and sneezing..??

Hi .. also had 20 week scan yesterday and was told I had low laying placenta with another scan arranged for 32 weeks (I've had no bleeding or discomfort). I called MW to ask if there was anything I could do to help move it or anything I should stop, she said there was nothing on either. She knows I go to the gym regularly (walking, swimming, pilates, antenatal aerobics) and has always encouraged this. No sure about sex, haven't refrained so far but feeling a bit 'ouchy' since yesterday??!! From what I've read, there are different levels ... the lady who did the scan gave us nooo information at all, just a printed paper stating I had it and no explanation apart from it should correct itself.
