Anybody know whether it's safe to sunbathe in the 3rd trimester??

Maybe I'm being completely daft but it's my first pregnancy & I remember my midwife saying something about not having bath water too hot because it raises body temp too much which in turn raises the baby's body temp.

I'm 29 weeks & burnt myself red raw in the sun today, I had my bump well covered but even so I was wondering if anybody knows whether it's safe to sunbathe in the 3rd trimester? Normally he kicks & wriggles from the second I wake up to the second I go to bed but I did notice he was alarmingly still today, so now I feel like I don't want to sunbathe anymore just in case he's simmering in his amniotic fluid!!!

Anybody have any thoughts??

Well, you shouldn't have let yourself burn, but that's about you rather than the baby! You're highly unlikely to have raised your temperature enough to damage your baby unless you also gave yourself sunstroke. If you're still burnt then you should avoid the sun for three or four days at least.

You have to be careful not to burn and not to get hot. If you're sweating, feel uncomfortable or get headachey, dizzy or sick, then you're too hot.

I doubt you will feel like sunbathing in the last few weeks.
I admitt I am a sunworshipper, and only have to look at the sun to et a tan.
But from about 36 weeks, I was so bloody hot, with swollen feet/ankles. The last thing I wanted to do was be in the sun!
I think sun is supposed to be good for baby anyway - in moderation. provides lots of vitamin D.
Just don't get too hot, as I got sun stroke with my first, when I fell asleep on a beach. It was awfull, nearly fainted, and was dehydrated.
Wouldn't do it again!!

I am sure baby will be fine, but sunstroke might be a bit worrying, which to be honest you're risking getting if you let yourself burn like that! Slap on some factor 30 and take breaks in the shade!

Sorry, I can't answer your specific query regarding the baby, but from your point if view it's never "safe" to sunbathe. The second your skin changes colour, you've already done damage
