Hi all! This is my first post and I'm just hoping that someone can help me with a question about the 12 week scan? I've been really looking forward to it (12 weeks tomorrow, scan on Thursday) as I wanted to make sure everything is ok. However I got a call on Friday from the hospital and they booked me in for a later appointment with the midwife (two weeks after my scan).

Over the weekend I got nervous that maybe I will go for the scan and they won't actually tell me any of the results? Is that the case? I am mainly keen to confirm that there is a heartbeat (I'm sure there is but just worried!), the due date and whether it is one baby or twins. I was previously under the impression that I would find this out at the scan - is that right?

If it makes any difference, I'm going to UCH in London!

Thanks so much!

They should definitely tell you - in fact, the sonographer should be able to answer any questions you have there and then.

At my hospital I was given a couple of printed sheets to put in my maternity notes that had info like due dates, size of baby, how many babies there were etc.

They will tell you all of those details at the actual scan and also record them in your maternity record (the one that you keep and take to appointments).

Good luck with the scan.

oh dont worry, they'll tell you everything you want to know at the scan i was so panicked coz they did the scan, then sent me out and said mw wanted to see me in the other room, had to wait the longest 15mins of my life!she just wanted to tell me my iron levels were a bit low

oh also-if you can afford it, i would recommend to go private for another scan. we went.they spend ages with you and let you just watch your babies heart beating for ages!do you little videos, lots of photo's, make it all more exciting!!

Thank you so much everyone, I feel better already. It's just so scary and apart from feeling slightly queasy almost all the time, I really don't feel that "pregnant" which doesn't help!

Dirtgirlworld - I might take your advice on private, my husband's work pays for our private health insurance which we've never used so I might check if that covers it!

Will let you all know how I go, thanks for all the luck.

at my 12 week scan they told me within about a minute that they could see the baby and the heartbeat so we were toally reassured (had some bleeding at 5 and 7 weeks and early scans then but this one was the biggie). Then they did all the checks and tests and that took ages but by then you know things seem to be okay. Good luck. x
