Hi, I am 36+2 today and been suffering with water infections and kidney pain throughout my pregnancy, I have a history of kidney stones and have been diagnosed in this pregnancy with hydronephrosis of the right kidney. Also have severe pain in the left and was hospitalised last weekend to be given pethidine injections. I am due to see my consultant on Monday and want to know where I stand re: being induced early. Urology consultants in hospital discussed fitting me with a stent to relieve the pressure in my kidney but then decided it was too risky and best to leave till after baby is born but i got the impression their view was that baby could be delivered now so i can get appropriate xrays etc done to see exactly what the probs are (which i obviously cant have done now). Consultant for my pregnancy said to me last week, he will not do this before 38 weeks which i agree with. But where do i stand after this? If baby is effectively "full term" at 38 weeks, can they refuse to induce me so that I can be treated and keep baby in there or can I insist that they do as my health is at risk? I am worried that I am risking further damage to my kidneys by waiting as no-one knows exactly what the problem is and also, are the benefits of the baby staying in there past 38 weeks outweighed by the fact that I am constantly having to take codeine to get through the pain and getting 2-3 hrs (broken) sleep a night because of the pain?
Sorry for long post, I am just so nervous about the whole thing as this is my first baby and I have no idea what rights i have and how much my feelings are taken into consideration when they decide whether or not to induce me. I just want to make sure I have as many facts as poss before monday so i can make sure i have everything i want to ask/say ready....
