Are you playing music to your bump?

Stupid question, just for fun - are you piping anything into your womb?!? I've seen those Lullabelly belts and I'm tempted for some reason, I've even bought a CD of Shakespeare's sonnets so DS2 might grow up to love books! Was just wondering if you believe that it benefits babies in the womb, are you playing music and what are you playing?

Oh dear - dc3 (due in 9 days) has been mostly listening to - screaming of dds, dds watching far too many disney films and the near constant whinging of his mum.

Ha ha Hazeyjane! V funny. I used to play all kinds of music to DS1 but like you this one has mostly been listening to me whinge and complain about pregnancy, me telling off DS1 and far too much Cbeebies!

DC listened to plenty of music - the music I was listening to. If you want to buy a belt then go ahead. I guess it's a reason to sit down and relax for a bit (and like HazeyJane says, the PFB is the only time you'll get the chance)

When I was pg with DC1 I listened to loads of music, but also watched Neighbours everyday and when she was born, evreytime the neighbours theme tune came on she would stop whatever she was doing and listen to it!

I am nearly 39 weeks now and I play some songs from Glee to bump every morning as it pputs me in a good mood and she always wiggles away to it but if i put something else on it doesnt have the same effect lol

my bump goes crazy for sigur ros....just like its mama and papa....i also play the piano a lot and it seems to really enjoy that too...i say go for it.

Strapping a belt on and pumping music into your bump seems a bit cruel to me... what if the baby's happy just chilling out in there and doesn't want to be blasted with sound?

Octaviapink · 26/06/2010 14:59

Missus84, it'd be a bit like listening to music with your head underwater, plus being insulated by a couple of inches of fat, skin and general tissue. I don't think the baby's going to get blasted! In any case, the womb's a noisy place - that's why newborns sleep better with noise in the background than quiet.

It's nice to play your bump music, but it's not going to make any developmental difference in the long term!

Missus84 - I sort of had that thought. My next door neighbour drives me crazy with her Lady Gaga crap pumping through my living room wall all day long, DS2 could well feel the same way about a Lullabelly!
