Did you have to take your rings off?

I am 35+4 weeks pregnant and after a long hot day at work, with quite a bit of standing up and a long hot commute on Tube and bus, my fingers are really swollen and I've just about wrestled my wedding and engagement rings off. I can't decide whether to wear them tomorrow (last day at work) or whether I should leave them off in this heat.

Have other people had to stop wearing rings at this stage, or is it just the heat and travelling? Any advice welcome.

Hello Emster

I struggled to get mine off to do the washing up earlier, and the this evening i mentioned to DH that i may have to leave them off. I think it is mostly due to the hot weather, my feet are huge too

mum2oneloudbaby · 24/06/2010 20:40

Probably just the heat. Had to leave one of mine off today, leave them off it will be better than having to have them cut off. Especially as it seems it is only going to get hotter over the weekend.

Happened with my first as well.

Mine were off at about 15 weeks and was middle of Feb! I as worried they would get stuck. Got them on when DS was about 9 months (but now can't get them off!).

Shaz10 · 24/06/2010 20:47

Mine were off by 25 weeks or so, and wedding ring back on about 4- 5 months pp. Engagement ring still not comfortable (11 months).

Emster30 · 24/06/2010 20:49

Yes maybe I'll leave them off until the worst of the heat has gone - don't want to risk having them cut off! My finger feels all naked though (with a huge dent in it).

Hope DH will understand it's not that I don't love him any more!

I have a huge dent too!

Mine were off by about 30 weeks and did not go back on afterwards for a good 8-10 weeks. If there is any chance they might get stuck I would leave them off as I had a mad panic when i tried to put both of them on and then my finger started going purple! Cue frantically running hand under cold tap trying to get them off, and eventually some hand soap helped to ease them off. Was a bit panicked though at the time!!!!

I've had mine off for the last couple of weeks because they were uncomfortable. Can't even get them on now with the heat
Maybe wear then on a chain round your neck if you don't want to be without them.

JamieJay · 24/06/2010 21:50

I'm a week behind you and have had to start leaving my rings off in this heat, they're okay in the morning but by mid afternoon they are really bothering me.

I'm more scared that I'm going to take them off at work and lose them then about them getting stuck.

Emster, you could always get a little silver band in a bigger size to wear in the meantime if you feel uncomfortable not wearing a ring, x.

clareanna · 24/06/2010 21:57

Hi I had to take mine off during my first pregnancy - went and treated myself to some costume jewellry to wear instead. was back in my wedding band/ engagement ring about 2 weeks after birth.
good luck!

LadySpratt · 24/06/2010 21:58

I had to take mine off a few weeks before I was due. Just as well or they would have had to cut them off later , so I wore them on a chain around my neck.

Even though I had them off for a few months the dent never went, and still didn't tan!

Valpollicella · 24/06/2010 22:00

Hey Emster

I was PG through a v hot summer and my fingers swelled spectacularly on day...I spent about 2 hours trying to take them off and was >< that close to going to the hospital to getting them cut off as my fingers were starting to go a v odd colour...

DH will understand, honest! Take them off. Also, your fingers may be a bit swoleen even after the birth, but you'll be able to get them back on soon.

Could you wear them on a chain around your neck in the meantime?

beanlet · 24/06/2010 22:00

Leave them off -- I've had mine off since about 25 weeks because I have such bad oedema in my hands, and it will only get worse as you progress. There's no way I'll be getting my rings back on until the baby's quite old, I reckon.
