I've had one and it wasn't bad at all

I had one too. A bit uncomfortable, but OK.
You'll get used to all the poking around up there soon enough!

You don't have to have one, but it could start things off in a natural way, rather than artificial if you went on to have an induction.

I have had 3 and they are slightly uncomfortable, but really not that bad. I would definitely say they are worth a try, plus the midwife can give you an idea of the likelihood of labour starting. One of mine started me off within 30 minutes (the other 2 did nothing unfortunately)
