Sore nipples - advice

I have bouts of really searing nipple pain - only in one nipple and at no particular time. Although my exercise bra (which is newly fitted)is very snug and protective so it does tend to have a bout of pain when that first goes on.

Is there anything I can buy to stick in bras at this stage? A pad, a protector of sorts?

That would only work if the nipple is rubbing. They hurt anyway IME and there's not a lot you can do!

I assumed the OP was pregnant, not breastfeeding?

I also have very sore and itchy nipples. I am not b/f, am 17 weeks pg and this has been going on for weeks on and off. No signs of thrush infection or any other visible causes. Not a hijack, just sympsthising with OP!

i have sore itchy nipples too, am 18wks preg and have got some thrush cream to try from the dr as well as a mild cream for eczema (i do suffer from eczema anyway so it could be that) i shall be seeing what helps but tbh i think its just one of those odd hormonal things

Yes, I thought the OP was talking about sore nipples in pregnancy too - given that this was posted in Pregnancy. FWIW mine are sore too - so much so that hugging anyone hurts.

4madboys · 22/06/2010 18:09

yep same here octavia, my breasts in general are really tender, a nightmare when you have a toddler that likes to climb all over you!

seasister · 22/06/2010 20:05

Yes, was talking about during pregnancy, not breast feeding

E45 anti itch cream is quite good

I'm 39+2 and mine just ache all the time I've tried putting some lansinoh on this week but the pain is internal iyswim so it's not doing much, apart from preparing the skin for the onslaught to come! Just another of those pregnancy niggles I think...

Octaviapink · 23/06/2010 14:58

Also, ignore anyone who tells you that b-fing doesn't hurt your nipples if you've got the latch right. It ALWAYS hurts for the first week or two - personally I think their mouths are too small too start with, and as soon as they grow a bit it's easier.
