DD is 5 and last night had an awful night, screaming, crying, scratching, etc. Gave her some medicine we have in the cupboard to treat it (got it just incase, handy!). Unfortunately seems to have not worked as she has it again tonight meaning another rubbish nights sleep . When one member of the family gets it the whole family are meant to take the treatment as it's highly contagious BUT can I when pregnant? The ones I have seen say you can't so what should I do? I'm only 8 weeks, but the thought of potentially catching them from my DD and then having to suffer for the next 7 months does not appeal!

I have read on here that they will go away by themselves within a few weeks (?6 weeks or so, I may have got the timings wrong) as long as you don't keep reinfecting yourself. They can be spread easily if the eggs are under your fingernails. This is why they can be hard to eradicate in dcs. Basically they scratch their bottoms and then eat/suck thumbs etc.

If you haven't got symptoms, you can avoid catching them probably. Just be vigilant re handwashing before eating.

Thank you. I have never washed my hands so much as I have the past 2 days ! She has had them before and nobody else in the family got them so fingers crossed this time . . .

my kids and i had them too, about 6 weeks ago. I couldnt take the medicine so was advised to wash morning and evening, change noght wear daily and wash sheet frequently. It did the job, as I had no more trouble from the blighters after a couple of days. You had to do this for 6 weeks.
