I have found loads of grey hairs and am fairly peeved but there seems to be conflicting advise as to whether its safe or not to dye your hair whilst pregnant. I'm 21 weeks and DS1 was premature (didn't dye my hair with him if I may add!) so I'm understandedly very cautious with this pregnancy. Any advise? Would my fellow pregnant MNers dye their hair whilst pregnant? Ta x

Have dyed mine twice this pregnancy, although not in first trimester, and am about to book in for a third appointment. My colourist has known I've been pregnant all along and has never raised any concerns.
The NHS advice says that dying hair is safe during pregnancy - and if you want to be super-cautious then highlights are an even safer option than full head colour, because with highlights the dye doesn't come into contact with your scalp (apart from during the short period of time when they are washing it out). Would this be an option for you? Sadly highights no longer give me enough coverage, so I've been on the permanent full head colour.

I am. I waited to get to the second trimester and am going to my hairdressers to get it done now so that I'm not in the small bathroom with all the fumes, etc.

Yes I am dying my hair. They only use semi-permanent (which covers grey) which contains no ammonia.

I waited until after the first 12 weeks and the first scan but since then have been dying my hair every 4-6 weeks using my usual permanent hair dye.

I'm now nearly 39 weeks with no complications.

I think as long as you're careful to follow the instructions (especially the patch test) and make sure the room is well ventilated then you'll be fine.

Thanks all! My grey hairs are no longer my torment in the mirror
