Hi. I had my 28 wk midwife appointment today. I have MS so feel crap anyway. She was asking all the normal questions. She tested my urine and it had protein and glucose in it again. She said as this has happened before I will need a glucose test. When on the subject of the protein she asked about the swelling which I have had occassionally. I said I get the flashing lights but put the headaches down to the MS. She asked me if I get pain in my ribs, I said yes but its just the baby. She said it wasn't as the baby doesn't reach that far yet. I have got to go to Fetal Health tomorrow to be checked over. I suffer with low bp so my bp isn't high just at normal level which is high for me.

My question is has anybody else had pre-eclampsia without the high bp. I read in a pregnancy book that some people can have severe pre-eclampsia without any of the signs. This is my 4th pregnancy. My other 3 were boys and this is a girl.

Any advice or info would be great.

I think it is great you are being checked over tomorrow. They are always v careful about pre-eclampsia which is a good thing.

You do seem to have quite a few of the symptons although as my dr said today a lot of the symptons are similar to normal pregnancy complaints (think it is rare to have severe pre-e with no symptons at all)

So I think the two they go on mainly is high BP and protein in urine. And they will look at your regular BP vs what it is now so what is high for you.

They found protein in my urine today and my BP is a little high (still in normal level but high for me) so they have asked me to call immediately if I get headaches or funy vision. Ever since Dr said that have had a mild heahache all afternoon!

I had severe PE at the end of my twin pregnancy. My blood pressure wasn't high until after I delivered at 33+6. The only signs I had were that I started to look jaundiced (yellow) and I was swelling up. I started to worry when my FIL said it looked like I'd been beaten up, and I could see my own cheeks IYSWIM! It could have been a lot worse if my BIL hadn't given me a stash of pee sticks from work (he was a medical registrar at that point) which I did and they read off the scale. Called the hospital, who were cross for me doing my own wee sticks, but thank God I did as my twins were given steroids for 2 days and then delivered EMCS to avoid lifelong renal failure for me. I know it sounds all dramatic, but it can be serious with no elevated BP. I'm rambling - sorry! In answer to your question, yes, I have had PE with normal BP, so I would say get checked out, and if protein is found, I suspect they will monitor a little more closely. Try not to worry, Good Luck xx
