Probably stupid question re pate

Very new first timer here so forgive ignorance.

I know I'm not supposed to eat pate - and can understand why I would steer clear of liver and meat based pates, but a couple of sites also say avoid even vegetable and fish pates. I don't really understand this. Are they just talking about the risk from shop bought ones?

I mean, if I have some mackerel fillets, some mayo, creme fraiche and lemon juice, that's fine, but mix them altogether and it's apparently not? I am sure they must just mean shop bought ones where you don't know exactly what's in them?

I feel very stupid for asking this but I really don't get why homemade fish pate would be a problem?

It's about bought pates that may be unpasteurised. It's down to the fact they may have listeria in them I believe.

If you're making it yourself and using cooked ingredients then munch away

It's the listeria and food poisoning risk. If you're going to make it yourself with properly cooked and pasteurised ingredients and then eat it straight away, I can't see the issue.

Ta for reassurance, I thought that must be the case. Glad I'm not going completely mad (yet anyway)!
