I'm a grey streaked brunette and I usually use ammonia free semi-permanent hair dye every now and again.

Safe or not?

Hi Seasister,

yeah its perfectly safe to dye your hair during pregnancy, im a natural blonde and have been dying my hair black for years, for some stupid reason I decided to try to dye my hair back blonde, the result, a horrible burnt orange colour, so had to dye it back, ended up ringing the mw in floods of tears thinking i'd harmed my baby, after being told it was a definate no no by my older sister, only for the midwife to say its perfectly fine as only only a teeny amount if any of the hairdye actually enters your system, the only thing you have to be careful of is apparently the hormones can affect the colour and your skins sensitivity to the hair dye so I recommend doing a strand and skin test first even if you have used the dye before.
Hope this helps.

Yeah I was going to say, The dye doesnt actually harm your baby but the effect dyes have on your hair can change during pregnancy so definitely do a strand test!
