I presume becuase sadly so many pregnancies end in early miscarriage. it's the same wth the HIP grant. they want to make sure you are properly pregnant! There may also be something to do with the legality of when an embryo beomes a foetus and has to be registered as a birth if it is born too early.

Embryo becomes a fetus at 10-12 weeks.

Would assume this rule is to do to with viability.

What is this grant, have never heard of it?

Health in Pregnancy Grant: it's about £190 and every woman, regardless of income, is entitled to it. You just need to ask for a form to your midwife. On monday I was 24+6 and my midwife refused to give me the form. A bit extreme, no?... I wonder if the new government will keep this grant.

omg thats like a couple off days aways and still wouldnt give you :O .... i doubt it he taking everything away

I had twins at 23 weeks, and even though they were born alive and well (and still are!) I wasn't allowed to claim the grant, even though I produced two children. Tis an odd system.

Lia1977 · 16/06/2010 19:11

Next week Im back at the hospital to get the form :0 Ive read somewhere that this grant is going to be scrapped so we need to hurry and get the forms in asap!!

I think you need to clarify if you mean healthy start vouchers- milk, veg and fruit for those on a low income which can be claimed from early on or the health in pregnancy grant- ~£190- which is from week 25.
