I cannot **ing believe it. Midwife came round to my house yesterday while I was at work. Dh was working from home, she wouldn't tell him what she wanted. Dh rang me at work, told me to ring the midwife asap.

Turns out I have in 1:50 chance of a chromosomal abnormality. I am 25, how can this be???!!! Nuchal measurement at 13+3 was 2.1 mm, nasal bone present!!! Based on my age alone, the risk would be 1:1300. I just don't understand. I am so scared. Please keep me in your thoughts today! x x x

Lullabelle, I'm sure someone will come on here with some wisdom and put your mind at ease. But you are in my thoughts and I hope all goes well for you [hug]

I had similar results (1:65) and I'm also 25. It appears my results were based on the blood test (did you have the combined test?) as my nuchal
measurement was 2.5mm and my baby also has a nose bone.

Are you going in to talk it over with a consultant today, or are you having CVS?

Also there is a 'antenatal tests and choices' board here- I got some fantastic information there so it may be worth reposting.

Thank you for your kind words!

I'm presuming it was based on the blood test because of the nuchal measurement and the presence of the nasal bone. We're going to talk with the consultant and I think it will be amnio because I'm nearly 16 weeks.

Did you have cvs/amnio abi? Hope everything worked out for you!

No, worries, it seems like we're pretty much in the same boat.

I did NOT have amnio or CVS, for really personal reasons, but basically because I lost my DS last year, and thought I was miscarrying at 5 weeks this time I just didnt feel it was the right choice for me, at this moment in time.

The blood test did it for us I think too - but the consultant should go over your results with a fine tooth comb with you, and explain how they got your odds AND that the combined test has an error rate of about 5% (I THINK!) so theres lots of factors to consider. No one can tell you what test to do - its you and your partners baby and your choice.

Because I opted out of Amnio/CVS we will be given a more in-depth scan at 20 weeks to look for soft markers - i.e. heart defects, absence of nasal bone, etc, and of they're present then we will take it from there, and if they aren't then I will try and relax a bit!

I will try and think of any other words of wisdom and post them as they come to me

PS - Something my husband said that I liked was: "Well if you had the choice of one out of any 65 lottery tickets and 64 of them were were winners, you would like those odds wouldnt you?"

Which I know is HUGELY over simplified but I liked it!

Abi - I should have thought first about asking you r.e your decision for amnio/cvs. I hope I have not offended you.

We have decided to go ahead with the amnio. The consultant said it was the blood test which has increased the risk factor. They offered to do it there and then but I decided against this and we're booked in for tomorrow lunchtime. Should get the preliminary results back on Monday.

I feel so sick with worry. The consultant obstetrician was fab though and we were in there for 1 & 1/2 hrs, did not feel rushed or pressured, just well informed and supported.

Frantically getting housework done today so I can relax all weekend

I was given a 1:21 on Monday, following the Triple Blood test last week and had my amnio on Tuesday. Results due tomorrow. I'm only 31 and as my consultant said to me, when the midwife called to tell me I thought "don't be ridiculous, how could that be?"

I know how you're feeling and how scary all of this is and I wish you the best of luck.

If you'd like to know anything about my experience of the procedure etc... just ask but I won't bombard you with that info in case you don't want it.
