Which month is the most busy for maternity wards?

Hello,

I am just curious to know what is the most busiest month of the year for baby births in the UK. I did a bit research online but did not come to the conclusion. I lived in 2 countries in my life, one is very cold with long winters where many babies come in the winter after the romantic spring 9 months before but in the second country where there are no real winters and climate is very mild the most babies are born in the summer. What is like in the UK? My baby is due at the end of january or very early february and just curious to know...

I am really surprised by all of these posts - its not something I had ever thought about but I had always assumed that December and January were the busiest baby months. I only get this conclusion because I only buy presents for 19 people and 15 of these peoples birthdays are between 12 Dec and 21 Jan. Then when I met DH 4 of his small family of 7 are also born during this period.
I was quite excited to be having an October baby as I thoght it was different!!!

Mine was October. The hospital was rammed. I spent the first night after cs in a corridor, then on an antenatal ward.

my DS was due on september 20th, but born on the 26th. he was definitely a NYE baby
I had him at the Rosie (think someone mentioned it earlier in the thread?), and was told that had I been there a week earlier, I wouldn't have got my epidural and may even have been turned away as it was insanely busy. Was pretty busy the night(s) I was there, but they said the week before was worse. My midwife said September was normally their busiest month.

May and August for me. Hospital reasonably quiet for both but really wished August baby had been a September one, but only because I could have had a whole year more at home with him before he went off to school!

I have a September baby and an April baby. Didn't notice any difference in the busy-ness of the hospital.

September baby was not a Christmas shag, it was us finally moving into the same house 18 months after getting married, and me getting accidentally pregnant within about 6 weeks.

We then had to live apart for career reasons for a couple of years. Moved back together again last summer, and lo and behold within 6 weeks again, I was pregnant!

My conclusion - DH saves his swimmers.

Hey thats interesting about all the taureans in Europe. i'm a tarean and when i was in primary school May and June were really busy birthday party months! It was fab. All my sons pals seem to be August-Jan birthdays though!

LittleWhiteWolf · 17/06/2010 14:27

My DD was born in the beginning of July and the hospital was nicely busy--bustling, but easily manageable. I was able to nab the biggest labour room with the birthing pool so I was pleased!
DH and I are thinking of TTCing number 2 starting in Dec as a Sept baby would be nice for us (his birthday is June, DD in July, me in Aug so Sept would be good!) but I'm a bit nervous of the prospect now!

cheapskatemum · 17/06/2010 16:38

My 3 DSs have birthdays on 5th, 7th & 9th May. I'm a teacher. Do the maths & say no more!

Oh dear...September baby for me too...

Any midwives here? do centres ensure that staffing levels are high to respond e.g. controls on A/L to meet the demaind?

DD was meant to be an April baby, but turned up 5 weeks early in March...and delivery was HEAVING, spent 2/3 of my labour (first child) on an antenatal ward with no pain releif as the G&A was only in the delivery suite. DS1 WAS an April baby (note to self...avoid men in July....) and it was again heaving, kept getting sent home until I was 7cm dilated. DS2, November baby(valentines day...), soooo quiet only one other lady on delivery at the same time as me. DC4 due in January, and am worried as it seems to be a busy time for birthdays in all my DC's classes, how would I find out if Jan is likely to be busy at my local maternity hospital?

babynelly2010 · 04/01/2013 15:55

I am bringing this thread back :)
I ended up having a baby in early February and the birthing centere was very quiet. I was the only one at the start there might of been another lady at the end. VERY slow. Now pregnant with my second due at the ent of august. Getting a bit worried if I will be able to have another wonderful water birth as there might not even be a room.... No word from midwife yet, 7 weeks now... Angry

mrsL1984 · 04/01/2013 18:51

I work in hospital constantly busy we had over 9500 deliveries in 2012

Littlemissexpecting · 04/01/2013 19:49

June for me so fingers crossed I get my water birth as hospital only has one. I had heard Sept was busiest with school term and everyone dtd over Xmas and new year

Twattybollocks · 04/01/2013 21:41

September I think is supposed to be busiest, but late spring/early summer is busy too. It is odd how the ward can be heaving one day then quiet a couple of days later, apparently heat waves or odd weather gets women through the doors. Wonder if the moon phase has any effect on week to week birth rate too!
