Is it right they lose their effectiveness after a year, and stop working as well?

Mine did. I used one with ds and got pregnant again 15 months later. Had to buy a new one! So I would recommend selling any that you have as soon as you no longer need it so you can make some money back on it before it dies! xxx

Mine is still working, 2 years after first pregnancy, never heard that before.
I did buy a decent one though, similar to one midwives have (I can't imagine they are replaced annually!), not one of the angelsounds type things.

I bought mine when I was pregnant with ds1 about 7 years ago and it still works. I found the baby's heartbeat a couple of nights ago at 11+5 weeks 12 weeks today!!

Ok, mixed opinions! Thank you all for replying!

It was only an Angelsounds one, and it was second hand when we bought it last year. I'll give it another bash tonight. I don't even like th bloody things, but my DH likes using it, at this stage before he can feel kicks.

Ah mine was a proper doppler, like the one the midwives use, not angelsounds.
