DH has just brought me home a little tub of ice-cream. It's Mr.Whippy (from local van) with flake and yummy topping.
Am currently 24+4...is it allowed?

tsk tsk

stacijc · 10/08/2005 19:24

not really

marthamoo · 10/08/2005 19:25

I think (dredging memory here) you're not advised to eat that Mr Whippy type ice cream from vans - just the more solid stuff that comes in tubs. Can't remember why - listeria?

It woudl probably be fine - but if you are going to fret about it it's not worth it for a tub of ice cream (and I wouldn't have eaten it but I was Mrs Paranoia when pregnant!)

CarolinaMoon · 10/08/2005 19:25

sorry, that's not v helpful is it?

I wouldn't have eaten it cos of the salmonella risk, but then I was Miss Paranoid while pg (only one so far, will probably scoff anything that crosses my path next time).

marthamoo · 10/08/2005 19:27

here it says not to.

jessicaandbumpsmummy · 10/08/2005 19:27

i would and have and im 30 weeks!

CarolinaMoon · 10/08/2005 19:29

ah yes, listeria, not salmonella (though I heard about one case where someone did catch salmonella from a van ice-cream because the ice-cream bloke didn't wash his hands after going to the toilet).

marthamoo · 10/08/2005 19:29

Well listeria is extremely rare - but there is a risk. It's down to the individual whether they take it or not. I accidentally ate pate when pregnant and worried myself silly - so I wouldn't eat the ice cream.

marthamoo · 10/08/2005 19:30

It will have melted now anyway....

ChaCha · 10/08/2005 19:30

Thank you everyone for the speedy replies. DH has gone on to eating mine now and thanks you all for giving him the opportunity to scoff mine...LOL

Marthamoo, thanks for the link. x

I don't like the Mr Whippy stuff, I'm a bit fussy when it comes to ice cream.....

marthamoo · 10/08/2005 19:30

Make him go to Tesco and buy a tub of 'proper' ice-cream, plus relevant toppings - and pig out on that instead!

Whizzz · 10/08/2005 19:31

Blimey, well I didn't know that !!
I thought you were joking - Oooops

stacijc · 10/08/2005 19:35

make him buy you haagan daaz to compensate [grin[

ChaCha · 10/08/2005 19:35

Fat chance marthamoo! Have been told there is ice-cream in the freezer and syrup in the cupboard..it was worth a try!

DH would not buy a cone from the van for same reason as was mentioned about ice-cream van bloke not washing his hand after using the bathroom! DH said there are vans where they hand you the cone in a napkin/serviette/tissue. Said this one didn't so opted for the tub.

Why do i never think of these things

stacijc · 10/08/2005 19:36

oops even

ChaCha · 10/08/2005 19:36

I should say 'washing his handS' rather than just 'hand'
