See your MW and ask her to refer you for some physio. In the meantime go and see someone for massage.

Good luck

In the evenings you could try kneeling on the floor and lean over a footstool/swiss ball and get someone to rub your back - helps me a bit but the shooting pain still comes back randomly when walking. Think MiniMarmite's physio idea is probably the real solution.

Leaning over the birthing ball and getting a massage is a good start.
Warm bath, hot water bottle in area also eases it.
But most effective is to keep moving, and gentle stretches.
Physio will show you.
Don't slouch on the sofa, lift funny or twist funny ! Hold your posture well and try to hold in you pelvics whilst lifting !!
I had a slipped disk early on in pregnancy, and got told all of the above by physio.
I managed to make it between 20 weeks, to 38 weeks without too much pain doing the above.
I think the disk is aggravated again, as I couldn't move last night.
But . . . I did the above list, and it has eased off a bit today !
Oh yeah, it won't get better over night, so you have to keep with the exercises, and advice !!
Good luck!
